Methinks...this one is gonna end badly for Iowa.

Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Meets w/ Michigan In NYC
I seriously want to know who Iowa would go after if KF does leave. There are better schools with openings already and they aren't exactly marquee compared to those schools.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -

Breaking News!!!!
Michigan hires Kirk Ferentz. Iowa gets good, Michigan gets worse!

All of this has to have a negative impact on Iowa's recruiting. This drama seems to play out in some form every year. Sooner or later, something will actually happen.
It now appears that Shaun Prater is lobbying for an offer from Pelini. They had an in-school visit yesterday with Osborne in attendance. Prater said in an interview that he really is hoping that something can be worked out with Ne. If so, he will drop the hawks in no time.

Iowa would be able to offer more money to a coach than any other school looking right now. Not because they're the top destination, have the most tradition, or have the largest budget, but because they're stupid enough to do it. On top of the highest salary, you can go there and win 5-7 games a year with a few 9-10 win season mixed in each decade and have job security. No other program in the nation would let that happen.

Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Meets w/ Michigan In NYC
It appears that Michigan could offer over $3 million to its next head coach per the article linked in the USA Today Coaches Salary thread.
If Michigan offered equal to or more more than Iowa AND Michigan wants Ferentz he is gone in a second.

Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Meets w/ Michigan In NYC
Check out this quote... On Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz Kirk Ferentz to me is one of the best coaches in America. You imagine how good he would he be if he wore a block M into a family room compared to a Hawkeye. All due respect to Iowa but they always are going to be kind of that second-tier team in the Big Ten and if Kirk Ferentz has the resources with the new stadium and everything -- and they're going to. ... He walks into family rooms anywhere in the country with Michigan on his sweater, he’s going to be able to bring in a lot of players. There’s no doubt about that. If in fact he ends up becoming a real player (in the search). http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071205/SPORTS06/71205012/1054

IF he goes, I think it's really going to be an interesting search, with a lot of guys names you haven't heard of. It's really a lateral move for a lot of the names being tossed out, like Groebe, Rodriguez and Kelly, so I can't see many of those guys moving. Maybe Chuck Long? He hasn't exactly done much at SDSU, but he'd certainly be a bit of a unifying force over in Iowa City, and he's at least done it as an assistant at some level.

Michigan:...we are extremely impressed with your accomplishments and would love to have you here at Michigan. KF:Great! How is the pipeline of new recruits looking? Michigan:Recruits? No, no. We must have a misunderstanding here. We were wanting to hire you to head up our new Criminal Justice degree program here at the university. We couldn't think of anyone with more experience.

Not sure about the "justice" part of that. But funny. -
Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Meets w/ Michigan In NYC
I just want this to end one way or another.
I'm really looking forward to hearing the delusional ravings of Hawkeye fan and who they're going to hire to replace Kirk. I'm sure the 'Ol Ball Coach, Mack Brown, Butch Davis or Jesus Chirst will be at the top of their list.
