Were any of us on that list? With 20 names, they sure better hurry up with the interviews.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

Maybe they've compiled a list and once they are done with it they'll give it to Iowa to choose their replacement.

The Dibbs days were very good.
Good point about Marty. But who doesn't like to hear about every sport in Boston and the Iowa energy every day? :)

Ferentz is gone if offered. It only makes sense. There might be 20 names on the list, but how many are actually viable candidates. I think Miles is out. I think it is down to Brian Kelly and Kirk Ferentz. I think Ferentz has the better connections with Carr and Mary Sue Coleman.
Iowa will be scrambling. Stoops will not leave Oklahoma. This will really throw their recruiting in to a bigger funk than it is right now.

It was awesome with Dibbs and Salisbury. It kind of slid after that. He worked well with a counterpart. It was evident when he would do an hour with KO before DP left this year.

Maybe they will offer Kirk $3.5M and then he will go back to Iowa and ask for the same. I feel a Houston Nutt working here or Scott Boras at work here. | EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl. |

If Ferentz would leave I've got to believe that Mike Stoops and Chuck Long would top their list of replacements. That will satisfy the fan base and those guys have some experience.

I'd love to be able to beat Chuck Long for once.

Don't Call It A Comeback
He's back:
Two sources . . .
Have now told me that Kirk Ferentz is at the top of Michigan's list of coaching candidates.
Members of Michigan's search committee leaked today that Ferentz has been made priority No. 1. Lloyd Carr, who's retiring after 13 seasons at Michigan, is pushing for Ferentz, a source said. He has a say in this. Mary Sue Coleman, UM's president and the UI president when Ferentz was hired at Iowa, has a say in this. That's according to logic, by the way.
For those concerned about bloggy stuff, Mark Morehouse is a sportswriter for an Iowa paper. For those concerned about the Ferentz's-agent angle, Morehouse makes it clear this is coming from Michigan's end. For those just plain concerned, well... yeah.
Stunning, probably wrong graph:
Ferentz makes $2.84 million at Iowa, and that's guaranteed through 2012 (that's $14.2 million over the next five years). Michigan knows it's going to take between $3.5 and $4 million to get in the ballpark, with a lot of coaches, not just Ferentz.
This does not jive with the "insulting" offer provided Miles unless this whole fiasco was downright deliberate. | | |
