SI.com article discussing ISU/Iowa rivalry

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...wa.iowasta.ap/

Focuses on the billboard and a little of the past. Pretty cool to see a "national" site getting in on the action and bringing our storied rivalry to the masses.

Re: SI.com article discussing ISU/Iowa rivalry

Fun read! Just goes to show how much the tides are turning in our favor as of late!

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I-S-U!

Poor old Banks.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

A 1916 survey commissioned by the U.S. Commission of Education stating that the game was the "occasion for the revival of feuds, charges and countercharges (and) the reassertion of differences and criticisms," led to a halt in the series. After a brief two-year revival, the Hawkeyes used a resolution in the state Legislature to justify not renewing the series.
The schools' athletic directors agreed to a two-year contract to play starting in 1977, but when Iowa found out that its athletic director had actually committed to six games, the school refused to sign the deal.
An arbitrator was brought in to resolve the dispute, forcing Iowa to honor the six-game contract.
What the hell?

Passing: 124/273, 1560 yds, 8 TDs
Rushing: 441 yds, 3 TDs
Receiving: 98 Rec, 1106 yds, 3 TDs

Not sure where they got THAT info about the 1916 stuff. Everything I've read points to the UI Board of Control as the culprit in stopping the series. They wrote their own resolution after the 1920 game that stated that playing the game was bad for the citizens of the State of Iowa because it caused bad blood, divided families, yada yada yada, and that was hardly the type of thing that UI wanted to promote.

The 'resolution' was rescinded for 1933-34, then put right back in. It was even updated/amended a few times in attempts to further justify them not wanting to play Iowa State.

Re: SI.com article discussing ISU/Iowa rivalry

Marty and MIller had Jim Zambel on yesterday and he mentioned something about an incedent at a baseball game that added to the demise of the annual football game. I think he was doing games in the 20's so he should know something.

He also mentioned that Ronald Regan called the last Iowa/Iowa State game before the long break. That was kind of cool. I also didn't know that Zambel's daughter and two grand-kids attended ISU. How funny!
