Re: ESPN story

This ended in F'02. Keep in mind that we wrestle them once on the schedule and up to one or two times more each year at tournaments like Midlands.

Re: ESPN story

We used to wrestle them twice a year. Both teams would get a home dual so the 30 in a row is accurate.

Re: ESPN story

My dad was on the opposing side of a fist fight between two HS's in the CF/W'loo area out in a corn field. Long story short: he witnessed Gamble being knocked out from one punch and just one swing... knocked out flat and he was known and feared for his wrestling... he just didn't know how miss a right hook. The rest of the W'loo (E or W, not sure) tough guys left the scene right there after.

Re: ESPN story

I couldn't find it last night, I spent a while looking for it.

Save us tonight, the last hope for all of us,
Light-years gone by, we're still holding on,
Save us tonight, a star shines in all of us,
Far beyond our lives, still our glory lives on.

"Iowa State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson is hoping to upset the Hawkeyes."

I believe this caption was referencing to the picture in last year's meet. As in: LAST YEAR Sanderson was hoping to upset the Hawkeyes. I should think the #1 ranking would obviously leave the Hawkeyes with upset hopes.

Last year was awesome. Not a big fan of Gable, but his comment "I didn't give him the bird, I gave him the arm" was hilarious. If I were a Hawkeye fan I'd make T-shirts that said "Our coach gave your coach the ARM!" Each word in that sentence has only one syllable, so you think they could handle making one.

Cael has a gold medal to go with it, not sure why the writer picked Gable's 1 loss over Cael's none for that article.

I don't follow wrestling but I don't think anyone is doubting Pollard's move to put Cael in charge when some thought it was too early to do it. I've always thought how could anyone not want to wrestle for this guy when he's the only coach who can come into your living room and tell you he was undefeated as a wrestler. I think if I wanted to learn how to be the best I can I'd want to learn from the best and Cael obviously has that going for him that no one else can claim and it's showing already in our wrestling team.
Cael was at ISU 8 years before Pollard arrived. 4 as an athlete, 2 as Special Asst to the AD while he trained for the Olympics and his Gold medal and 2 as an assitant coach. It was not too early for him to asume the Head Coaching duties.

Not to sour your fun or anything, but "our" should be two syllables, it's only that colloquially people mistake it for "are". And as an English major, that drives me nuts.

I got goosebumps, its going to be intense Sunday and I love it.

I got Goosebumps too....having moved to Omaha in 2001 from Ca....this is Heaven for a Wrestler. The first time I did an ISU/Iowa Match at the Kaufman...I thought:" I can die now, this is as good as it gets for an Official." I will NEVER forget the first time I that Day....
