In fact, if memory serves me, they petered out badly late and finished something like 4th or 5th, but got into the NCAA because of their early season success.

I think we hit the perfect storm tonight...a hot-shooting, quick backcourted, jacked-up team that went up against a shorthanded, confused, young team.
I hear your frustration, though.

I wasn't thrilled with the hire and said so on this board. I am willing to wait and see because there is nothing else I can do. That said, it is extremely difficult for me to see how year 3 or 4 is going to magically be better. The offense is mechanical at best. Buckley and Eichmeir (sp?) may help some, but Mann and the kid from Utah are a reach at this level. Not going crazy here or anything, but I just am not impressed with the results of this coaching staff to date. There was an utter lack of discipline and fundamentals displayed tonight. And isn't that what we were (justifiably) upset with the previous regime for?

Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
I think it's been proven by now that we can have absolutely no expectations from MBB this year. Or even next year. Basically, just don't have expectations until we achieve something to be expected.

With that said, we may as well go ahead and redshirt WJ to get him healthy for next year and get him another year of eligibility.

Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
In listening to the post game, I hate the idea of "put this game behind us" or "we can't dwell on the past"......No, what you do is think about it for the next 2 days, get ****** off and take it out on your next opponent. We have officially hit rock bottom. 2 years ago we won by 30 at Drake. I have faith, but it sucks right now.

One word. Heart. It just seems like we couldn't care less about this game.

Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
Again, I am sorry for the post. It is very difficult to deal with losing to Drake, we have had a elite basketball program, there is no reason for a low to be this low. IMO
Well, as much fun as those two Big 12 Championship seasons were, I would argue that those were elite teams, as opposed to us having an elite program. Remember that after Tinsley and company left, we went something like 12-19, and the next year (LE's last year) we were improved and made the NIT, but still finished 5-11 in the conference. Elite programs don't have dropoffs like that. Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, Gonzaga, and as much as some ISU fans don't like them, Kansas, all have elite programs. We don't, yet.
I feel that one of the reasons we are so behind the proverbial 8 ball is due to coaching turnover. Since Johnny Orr left, we have not had a coach stay for any more than 5 years with the program (Floyd - 4 years, LE - 5 years, WM - 3 years). It is pretty damn hard to build, develop, and sustain a program when none of your coaches stay for very long, whether it's due to ambition (TF), personal demons (LE), or just not getting the job done (WM). I haven't done any research on it, but it would be hard for me to beleive that there are very many other BCS-level college basketball teams that have gone through the number of coaches we have in fifteen years.
I think we have to start looking at this season as being a "lost" season, what with all the injuries to key players, suspensions, and very young and inexperienced backcourt. If we don't see much progress next year, then I think McD's seat will get hot and rightfully so, but I do really feel we need to have coaching stability in our program before we can start having championship dreams again.

I'm mad, sad, frustrated, embarrassed, and all of the other words that go along with those.

Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
Embarrassing......this performance was in laymen's terms, 'not good.'

Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
Lack of hustle was mentioned in the articles on cbs sports. Hard to believe.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
As we saw in FB...sometimes you must go backwards before you can move forwards. We did lose to EA Sports, Iona and Fresno State under Wayne - all at home. We're happy we "got rid of " Dan and this after we went 3-8 this year with losses to Kent State, UNI and Toledo. How is this any different (except it's year 2 - read further)?
I am frustrated this is happening, especially in year 2 - but Greg was dealt a hand he never expected this year. Defections, injuries and Lucca being hosed by the NCAA. We'd be a better team if just one of those 3 things was not working against us.
Give us the guards from last year and we have 1, maybe 2 losses.
Eliminate some of the injuries and I'm sure we have more wins.
Give us Lucca and I'd think we've got an extra win, maybe two. That's the hardest to judge because we have not seen him though.
This totally sucks but we must look at the whole picture here. If we're sitting in this boat next year, then we can toss some mud.

Re: MBB: Meltdown thread
Could anyone see any kind of offense being run?
Scary. Just scary.
