As we saw in FB...sometimes you must go backwards before you can move forwards. We did lose to EA Sports, Iona and Fresno State under Wayne - all at home. We're happy we "got rid of " Dan and this after we went 3-8 this year with losses to Kent State, UNI and Toledo. How is this any different (except it's year 2 - read further)?
I am frustrated this is happening, especially in year 2 - but Greg was dealt a hand he never expected this year. Defections, injuries and Lucca being hosed by the NCAA. We'd be a better team if just one of those 3 things was not working against us.
Give us the guards from last year and we have 1, maybe 2 losses.
Eliminate some of the injuries and I'm sure we have more wins.
Give us Lucca and I'd think we've got an extra win, maybe two. That's the hardest to judge because we have not seen him though.
This totally sucks but we must look at the whole picture here. If we're sitting in this boat next year, then we can toss some mud.

I didn't see the game and therefore don't know what defense was being employed, but this is very common and makes a lot of sense against zone defenses.

Coe College might have beat us tonight.

I couldn't watch either but, if the low block guys sets a screen for the cutter, this is fairly common against man or zone. If he the cutter is truly just bringing his man to the low block (sounds like man-d) for no reason as described, this is a result of poor execution of an offense and probably not coached....just my opinion.

They were manning up. The guy coming baseline was bringing his guy with him. I know basketball, don't need offenses explained to me. And anyone who has played it could see what we were doing made no sense.

I dont know why people expect so much from a team that has 3 players who are Big 12 caliber. Wait till Coach Mac doesnt have to recruit 'roster filler' players and can really start getting top notch kids. Its going to take probably 2 more years to get recruits and probably a year to let them mature. IT TAKES TIME!

Maybe we hired the wrong UNI coach? Jacobson seems to be doing well ... with Mac's recruits 8^)

A couple questions after looking at the box score:
How can Brackins only get off 4 shots?
Where is the Jiri Hubalek that tore through the Big 12 late last year? Did his injury slow him that much? Or does not having guards getting him the ball in the flow of the offense make him that ineffective?
After tonight, do we see a shakeup in the lineup? Do Garrett and Boozer get the start against Iowa?
Curious as to what people think.

Just play'n with you ISUFAN22. I can support McD. Just hope it's not a 4 year ride until we start playing Cyclone hoops.

Well... That was a pathetic overall effort by the 'clones.
Incredible shooting by Drake too... Even if we played well we probably still would have lost.
We have a host of problems that won't all be solved this season. We are just going to have to wait. Things will get better, eventually!

Don't compare GMAC to Callahan... he's no way near the pompous as- that Callahan is.

It's discouraging for sure, but probably a reality check also. With the personnel losses in the last two years, the Lucca screwjob and Wesley hurt, it might be more surprising if this didn't happen at some point. Drake is a quality opponent and obviously played well tonight. ISU obviously didn't. Hopefully we can build from this, and continue to build towards the future this year, as I know that McDermott is the best coach in the state. Oh, and I love the separate threads for the postgame. A great idea! | |
