Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Out Of Running

Jamie Pollard told me that Michigan has not contacted him to speak with Ferentz. Since Iowa State owns Ferentz I would be very surprised if Pollard didn't get contacted prior to Ferentz interviewing. If Michigan did interview Ferentz without first contacting Pollard should we be ticked off?? I know I would be.

Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Out Of Running

Ferentz was never a serious candidate. Maybe three years ago, but not now when he is only a .500 coach.

Why would he not end the rumors-- he needs the attention and wants us to continue to believe that he really deserves to be one of the top ten paid coaches in America, and of course, the "the state's highest paid employee".

Kirk will need Ft Knox money to move anywhere - he is really about the money and not the kids.

Obviously, after my last post on this thread it was announced that Miles had signed the amended contract so the Board could approve it (which happened).

The interesting thing is that it is truly an amended contract (not a new contract) and all Miles really got in addition to what his original contract spelled out was some bonus money ($250,000) that he can distribute amongst his assistants and some additional years on the contract.

All of the additional money everyone is talking about was already part of the contract. His contract has some "escalator clauses" that say he must be in the top 3 paid coaches in the SEC if he wins the SEC Championship (which he just did) and that he must be in the top 3 in the country if he wins the National Championship (which is still on the table to win). Tuberville is renegotiating his contract and the details are not final so the top 3 SEC money is not certain yet and, obviously, LSU has yet to win the National Championship so that money is not certain.

To my knowledge, the amended contract still includes one specific coach buyout (that has not changed)...one for the University of Michigan.

At any rate, both Miles supporters and Miles detractors down here are happy because they do not want this to become a distraction to coaches or players as they prepare to play Ohio St. He is also getting some credit for not leveraging LSU for more money than was already in the contract.

However, the thought that runs through my mind is simply this...LSU and Miles have had a signed contract in place all through this process. Now they have signed an amended contract. Nothing has changed...it's not like Miles has been working without a contract. The bottom line is that these coaching changes occur all the time with signed contracts in place. Having said that, I cannot believe Michigan would wait until after 1/7/08 to name their new coach.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

The reality is that Michigan has significantly more resources...money, facilities, tradition, alumni, tradition, etc. than Miami. Miami has had great teams over the past 20 years or so but they were able to capitalize on a tremendous talent base in Florida during that time while only really having to compete with Florida and FSU.

Now they have to compete with Florida, FSU, USF, Central Florida, FIU, FAU...a growing number of instate schools. And while others have been seriously upgrading facilities...Miami has not. There are HS teams in Louisiana that have better facilities than Miami has (I know from kids that went on recruiting trips). UCF just built a new football stadium for example.

Miami is a smaller school with a smaller alumni base and they just have not kept up in the facilities "arms race"...this, along with the increased competition for the local kids does note bode well for them long term unless they do something about their facilities.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Re: RUMOR - Ferentz Out Of Running

Rutgers coach Schianno announced today he is out of the running also. Jim Grobe said that yesterday. Brian Kelly is fixated in Cincy.

Maybe Jim Harbaugh might move into the picture. Kirk Herbstrit could be his OC.

Maybe Dan or Bill will get an offer.

as many damn players as they have in the nfl, you would think that they would be able to raise money relatively easily. why wouldn't they just hit some of them guys up for money? i know that most would probably not give a whole lot, but come on, they have 100 guys making millions playing on sundays.

I think they are starting to do that...trying to get their always vocally supportive alumni to put their money where their mouth is. If I recall, The Rock (I can't remember his real name) recently contributed some big money for facilities...he played at Miami.

I really don't think it's about money at this point.

It is the policy of CK and his agent not to comment because they like the uncertainty - it fattens their wallets. That is why he is the most overpaid coach in the world.
