Re: Greg McDermott's coaching career
Well you could say that, but a young an inexperienced Stinson was far better than any of the other 4 guards in the next two years. Not to mention he also had another guy who wasn't to shabby at his side! So I would say in their freshman years Stinson was better than Taylor, McIntosh, Peterson, and Haluska. And in Blalocks freshman year he was more talented than all of them except for Taylor...

When Sinson and Blalock were freshmen they had good experenced players (Vroman, Homan, and Jake) around them and to help them. If you put 3 players like that on this team things would be a lot better. Blalock and Stinson did have good times as a freshman but they also stuggled at times.
Re: Greg McDermott's coaching career
Id rather see our freshmen playing through their struggles, than see our juco "walk-on's" doing basically nothing.
Re: Greg McDermott's coaching career
Looking like a 10 win season at the best.

You can say it how ever you want, and I will agree that Stinson and Blalock did have a better supporting cast. But I still think it was pretty obvious as freshman they were more talented than the other four, maybe not Taylor. Also even if they were making mistakes as freshman I don't remember the last time I saw a guard travel in the back court without being pressured (Peterson). He has made some mistakes that I haven't seen in a while!

My point was we need to recruit the Stinson and Blalock types to expect to compete at the level we are all hoping for...

Totally agree, but we also need them to be students....?
Did you see the Marcus Brister myspace page, he may have the athletic ability we need to win, but like Mike Taylor brings some of the wrong elements to the program...
It will take time to find the right men that are the combination of students, players, and good for the community....
Re: Greg McDermott's coaching career
The worst loss to Drake in 137 years is pretty bad and should tell you a lot about our guard play.

I will give you that Stinson was a better player his freshman year, he was physical could handle the ball and knew the game. He also was in a run and gun system with not a lot of set plays and he could just do his thing. He was also a 20 yo freshman, that was hungry and that does make a difference. Blalock was good his freshman year but he did have stuggles. If memory serves me right he had a slow start to that season and there was one streach of the conference season where he didnt play much. He stuggled some his soph year as well.

By no means do I think Blalock was an all star his freshman year. But honestly which person out of McIntosh, Haluska, or Peterson would you rather have in the backcourt than a freshman blalock? In the previous post I said a freshman Blalock wasn't better than Taylor, so out of those 3 which one?

A program will often drop to a very low level before it can start back up, and that's where Greg is now. I know it's hard to watch and we're having some embarassing losses, but I expect us to be much better next year. If we're not, then it may be time to start worrying.
Remember also that Baryy Collier from the MAC Butler was going to take Nebraska to the Promised Land after having Mr. Danny "NIT" Nee as their coach. Doc Sadler started with less and later than McD did at nebraska and it will be interesting ewho does what in the head to head matches this year.
Frankly, the whole Big 12 bball scene is looking crappy compared to past years.. Yeah, kansas is floating near the top, but what else is new? They call this poor man's parity.
