If the NCAA wants us to believe that it stands for anything other than making money off kids, if it wants us to think that the rule book isn't just a public relations ploy, then it needs to drop the hammer on the USC football program.

The same place who will let a Notre Dame football player box professionally and NOT let a Colorado football player ski professionally can rot in hell.

I don't understand how absolutely nothing happened to Dwayne Jarrett after Leinhart and his dad payed for their fancy apartment. It makes zero sense.

The difference between Zibby and Bloom is Blooms money was sponsorship, not winnings. The money Zibby got was winnings. That being said I think not letting Bloom play if he takes the sponsorship money is crap.

It is all crap. You and I both know something is fishy at USC and nothing will probably be done. However, if the rumors are justified, I hope the NCAA comes down on them very hard.

Apparently Blythe's quote from earlier this week was a little prophetic.

I really doubt that there is even one 100% clean program out there. Top athletes have always gotten 'things' and always will. Some programs are dirty, some are way dirty and most of the others pretty clean but not perfect. It's hard to believe that a star athlete in a clean program has not benefited in someway, whether it is merely that occasional free round at the local watering hole or cell phone deals (hint hint EIU). Are most programs as dirty as some of the fabled alumni of the southern schools? No. But I doubt that there is one single 100% spotless program in the world.

Like Kiri jeans and egg beater versus the $100k Bush Fund?

I think people need to slow down on this. Yes some sanctions should come down, but at some point you can't keep track of everything going on. You would need some sort of totalitarian control to keep all of this stuff from happening. Also try to picture coaching a team in a city like LA, there's a lot of money and opportunity floating around. How is Pete Carroll supposed to know the details of the mortgage or rent of his players parents? What would Coach Mac know about our player's family finances? Can he really be concerned with all of that stuff?
While I acknowledge that some programs are dirty, and should be dealt with. I also recognize that if someone wants to get around the system, their going to find a way. There is a certain duty of care that a program has to take, but after that, you need to just focus on football.

I don't see how Reggie's bad behavior should implicate the USC program, unless the program is proven to be complicit in the goings on somehow.
I hope the distraction is just enough to let Nebraska sneak in and steal one for the Big 12. It's not often you will catch me cheering for the cornsuckers, but I will tomorrow.

I agree that there isn't much that USC can do to protect against this Bush deal. I mean maybe the school should get sanctioned if the guy is a booster, but from what I see the guy giving improper benefits was an agent. If they do anything, they should strip bush of any of his records and take away his heisman.

1. Representatives of New Era were permitted into the locker room during the 2005 season
2. Ornstein and other sports agents frequented the sidelines during games and numerous practices
3. One of the coaches, McNair, knew of Bush's involvement with New Era
4. Reggie Bush and his family accepted benefits worth more than $100,000 from agents while he was an NCAA athlete
