Great story, even if it is from the RAG. Did you read the comment below that someone wrote in.

"AND it happened against the cocky Hawks with Gable!! These two teams hated each other back than and so did the fans. Of course the Hawk wrestlers and fans were "punks" and dirty wrestlers at that time. That should get it going again."

Why is the crowd only expected to be 9000 if it's a sellout? Looks like previous attendance at Hilton has been over 13,000 for meets. Why such a small number this year?

they block off one section behind a basket. that way season ticket holders are still close to the action.

Re: Some big moments in the Rivalry meets of the past

i'm glad there is finally a "buzz" around this matchup. it seems like in the last decade a few not so traditional wrestling teams have got their names in the mix nationally. iowa has always been one of if not the top wrestling state in america, and to see isu and iowa slip a little in recent years has been sad to see. this is the only sport that i can truly say that i will cheer for iowa when they aren't competing against iowa state. you have to respect their tradition and dominance over the years. hopefully with the 2 young firey coaches it will bring this sport some publicity

Wrestling predicts massive sellout - Sports
Here's an article from the Daily on the sellout and Cael's decision to use to the curtain to try to increase season tickets sales. Some good quotes in there and it definitely shows that Cael is being proactive as far as increasing support for the wrestlers.

should be a great meet.. how big would this win be? Min then Iowa.. not only would we be knocking off two good teams.. but two big 10 schools..
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
