Re: New Computers
You want to hear an insane deal?
I just recently got a used computer off of E-Bay from some company...
It's an Acer T180-AD440 or something, with:
AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2.3 GHz (4400+ I think)
1 Gig Ram, DDR2 at 300 some MHz
320 Gig SATA Hard Drive
Geforce 6100 nForce 405 onboard memory, 256 megs
DVD-RW capabilities
Firewire
Built in Memory Card reader
Ethernet, 5.1 surround sound ability, all that fun stuff..
It doesn't come with any software, all it comes with is the power cable and a serial number for Vista Home Premium
All this... for $167 before tax and shipping. I got it for $222 after all was said and done.
Now how's that for a heck of a deal???
Granted, it's good for those of us who don't mind getting a used computer, and also who don't need a single bit of extra software, or bundled peripherals.

Re: New Computers
GotApex? Deals & Coupon Codes is a good place to keep track of the latest Dell deals too. I've helped 3 people in the past year or so order brand new Dell PCs and they got a great price and have been pleased with the PC. My current Dell is over 5 years old (good old Dimension 4500) and still running strong on XP Pro. Not even tempted to buy a new one yet and this is coming from a guy that works with desktop hardware for a living so I'm pretty picky about performance things sometimes.

You probably could have turned around and sold it for at least double that I bet. You can get software and peripherals cheap if you know how to look for deals. I've done the ebay thing before too with used PCs. If you know what you are looking for and what is a good price for it you can find some real steals that sneak through the cracks.

Re: New Computers
I wish I could afford a new computer... my laptop is nice but it doesn't run todays games
And the 60 gig hard drive I used to have in here got pretty croweded pretty quick (it crapped out and my uncle gave me a 100 gig one he wasn't using any more... I haven't filled that up yet but give it time)
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

I will speak for him since he's partying up while we work. He doesnt have an xbox 360. He likes mouse and keyboards better for FPS. Oh and Halo3 isnt available for PC yet. They just released halo2 out for vista pcs.
Ok, Now i will go back to being myself.

Ok, Now i will go back to being myself. Yeah, I prefer PC games too plus there are a lot of cool mods for a lot of them out on the internet. Game consoles go obsolete too quick and get pricy having to upgrade all the time. The only gaming consoles I own are a Nintendo 64 (Mario Kart is the only reason I own it!) that I bought the other year off eBay for like $30 and a Sega DreamCast that was given to me this fall when someone was cleaning out a room in their house.

Re: New Computers
I'm really on the back side of this curve. My computer announced to me last week that the 40G HD was about full. I started dumping crap and putting some family pics on cd and somehow things are really fouling up now. I'm going to have to call my in-laws/tech support! Hopefully it doesnt die but any of those deals would make the hit a little less of a pain.
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -

Re: New Computers
For dell deals all you really need to do is each thursday morning check their website, for both home, and small business. On the left side of the screen in each of those there is a link that says smart values and they are updated weekly.
I just picked up a core 2 duo 1gb memory 160gb hd and 19" widescreen monitor for $399 a few weeks ago. They also have a core 2 duo right now with a 17" lcd for $399 atm as well, but if you are not looking to go cheap then the one brain posted is a better deal. They also have a $399 laptop atm as well not sure on the specs.
As someone that builds and sells computers for people(not so much any more because of dell) you just can't beat their price.

Re: New Computers
"How can any company compete with dell?"
Alright let's get this thing started!
By not using windows. Buy a Mac.
