Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
Just remember, Haluska and Peterson were not recruited to be starters at ISU. They are both playing to the best of their current abilities so give them a break.
As for McDermott's ability to coach, you are crazy if you think he is not the right hire. If this team has Staiger and Wesley both playing, the team would be totally different than what it is now.
Tis the season to be a Cyclone. As always, it seems the bad breaks go our way.

Are you sure?!?!
I would agree he is D1 material but it is very very low D1. I am talking Bethune Cookman low

3. Wesley Johnson - best player might be done for the year
4. Jiri Hubalek - back to the old Jiri again
7. Clayton Vette homesick-tough situation, but we need him to help down low
5. Little Hype for the ISU-Iowa game - both teams are bad
6. fan base getting frustrated- bad loss to Drake, ?'s on whether McD is the right guy
Not a good start to the season.
At least Brackins is pretty good.
Why was a change made with the HC in the first place?
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
My biggest fear is that Craig Brackins looks around and decides "we aren't going to win anything here" and bolts. Craig is the only bright spot this season. Imagine what he could do with a great point guard and legitimate post player.
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
I think we should be like Cubs fans when next season rolls around and get shirts that say "Next Year Is Here"

I don't think Craig would want to sit out a year. We have more guard "replacements" coming in next year, and the coaches are due to strike gold in that area at some point (ala W. Johnson and C. Brackins). Plus, I've listened to Brackins' interviews on more than one occasion and he seems to be very grounded for a young man.
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
A few problems/things I've noticed this season.
1. It seems like our Fans will believe that the sky is falling if they see a shooting star.
2. Our fans have short term memories. 1 bad game (Drake) will be remembered while 1 good game (Oregon State) will be forgotten.
3. Our fans want immediate turn around into a power house program.
4. Our fans won't go to games unless they are winning.
5. Our fans (some) have really disappointed me this season.
Are we good? No
Are we Bad? To Be Determined
Will I watch them no matter what? Of Course
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
I agree CTA, there seem to be a lot of "Hawkeye-like" fans floating around on here lately regarding out basketball team. It's one thing to be cranky about losing the day after a game. It's another to not be able to put a game like the Drake game behind you and start crazily questioning whether our coach is the "right guy for the job." Newsflash to some of you...we've gotten beat at Drake quite a few times early in the season regardless of how good our team turned out at the end of the year.
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
I can't wait until the necessary McD first two down years are over and we have 3-4 straight 20 win seasons, tourney visits, and Brackins is all big 12 so we can stop being so negative. But I guess this talk will be necessary as well. Gotta be patient people, even though as fans that can be tough as hell. Just get behind our guys as best you can Cyclones! They need more support now than they do when they are winning easy and often.
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
great post CTA...couldnt agree more

Oregon State WAS not a "good game". It was god awful by both teams.

Did we watch the same game? Both teams actually executed plays. IIRC we didn't turn the ball over much at all.
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
Jake Sullivan was on kxno and he sez that the players at isu dont want to play mcdermotts style of play and they do not like his system. Jake also said that mcdermott has to recruit uni style players if he gonna succeed in ames.
Sez it all boys...every once in awhile there is something good on the old radio
Re: Things going bad for ISU B-Ball
I know things were bad the other night, but come on people, enough with the Mac is not the guy for the job stuff. Do we forget what he had to work with last year. Virtually nothing! A blank cupboard from the Morgan Era. Do you remember the team at the end under Morgan? The lack of effort and execution, forget about giving a crap about representing ISU in a positive manner was sickening. Mac could have a starting point guard this year that would produce in Mike Taylor, but he did the right thing and he is not on the team. Injuries, youth, bad luck, whatever you want to call it, he can't be evaluated on last season, and certainly not on the beginning of this season. It is rebuilding a program people, it takes time...deal with it. In a few years if we are in the same boat, get back to me. Until then, ride it out.
