And all of this talk about needing guards (I understand that, we do) should have nothing to do with getting blown out by 35 against Drake. Yes, Drake. Reminds me of the posts that said GC didn't have the players when we couldn't beat poor Kent St. or Toledo teams. The blowout at Drake is all on the coaches, and that concerns me. We have the players to beat teams like Drake, any day of the week.

FYI to you...I saw the Bilas feature on ESPN where he attends and shows practices from various programs around the country and interviews the coach...guess what? Floyd is going up-tempo precisely because of the athletes (Mayo) he has and their skill set. You need to watch what USC is trying to do this year...they are not trying to shove the "Floyd system" down their team's throat.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Georgetown runs an offense with a lot of sets and they find a way to fit great athletes into it. I'm not an expert by any means, but I would have never thought having LESS athletic guys would be a good thing.

Floyd's team is still ranked 158th in possessions per game. He's not exactly opening it up.

I never said they were planning to turn into Loyola Marymount under Westhead...it is tough to "teach an old dog new tricks".

I agree, I just think it's way to early to make assumptions about how quickly this team is going to play. We don't know if McDermott will speed things up once he gets some athletes in here with some experience. He has said he's going to speed things up once the program gets built up a bit so I'm inclined to believe him.

A guy like Garrett should be able to setup the offense and at the right time explode to the rim. Either the defense breaks down and he gets something easy or it creates for someone else. Brackins can get his shots under this system also. The only guy that doesn't fit as well is Clark. He doesn't have the dribbling skills or shooting skills. He is a fast paced kind of guy. But to Clarks credit he is adjusting to the slow tempo game and taking what he can get.

Why should we value what he says.....ummmmmm one word - BARNES!!!!!

Jake is in his ear all the time, he's been around barnes for going on three years, theres a trust there that should Jake decide that MACs system isnt right for Barnes, that he may take his talents elsewhere and the bottom line is, this will be the special talent that comes along once every coaching career unless your Duke or UNC.....

Couple things to think about from someone that talks with the staff and others in the bball program....
ISU was fully expecting a backcourt of Taylor and Staiger with the frontcourt of WJ, CB, and Jiri.....they wanted Garrett to come in and spell taylor getting 5-10 mins a game to get him acclimated to the game. Now i think Garrett is a great talent, and will develop into a great player for ISU - but seriously, does anyone out there think that ISU felt comfortable about coming into another season of totally freshman backcourt???? A transfer from Kirkwood, a walk on - no wonder were averaging like 20 turnovers a game...take the lumps....thats what happens in major shifts of teams....take the lumps and the teams better for it down the road because they learn how to handle adversity.

Think about next year, Garrett a soph, Staiger a soph, WJ a jr, CB a Soph, AT a Sr....then inject Buckley who one paper in detroit said is the best pure pg to come out of Michigan in 10 years (thats a statement) and when someone says hes better then Rumeal Robinson (thats also a statement) and also bring in Eikmeyer and our backcourt will be young but talented....

Right now GMAC does not have the talented backcourt to handle up tempo games, its a disaster waiting to happen....can you say DRAKE game all over.....Jake should see, we run a up tempo - we lose, we slow it down we can slow better teams into our pace and maybe win games....its a double edged sword fast and lose or slow and win - which is it???? Who's to blame, Taylor for his stupid actions and the NCAA for the stupid Staiger ruling.....

Re: Jake Sullivan on KXNO talking ISU BB

Hmmm.....I think that this style with these players that we have now give us the best chance to win when conference play starts. Yes we have some good athletes, but they're young and inexperienced. What we sometimes forget that patient offenses do work with great athletes - once everyone on the floor is clicking, you can score 80 points and win big. Right now, I think that this gives us the best chance to win Big 12 games.
