Flag Guy, glad to see you running again this afternoon. Looked a little slower than usual but still glad to have you.
Pretty good game today. Everyone looked a lot better than they did against Drake. Hopefully we'll continue to see this improvement and more going forward.

Bliss to you!

I thought our guard play was excellent today. I still think when Jiri gets the ball low, he needs to be STRONG with the ball. He brings the ball down where the little ones can get to it and sometimes loses it. I liked his emotion out there, and we played excellent defense.
Hopefully Lucca's parents saw the "wir lieben Lucca" sign, I'm sure they think Lucca is in a great place here in Cyclone Country

I thought the key to our victory was the perimeter defense - we really pushed them further from the basket and we slid through and switched off sceens well. Iowa made a lot of treys vs UNI and I was concerned they would be that hot.
Also, at one point late in the game, Iowa was 2 for 3 from the FT line and we went to the line probably 20 times and made 73%
This was probably some of the two worst looking teams I've seen since the series resumed in the 70's. BIg 12 guards Chalmers, Robinson, Collins and Augustin are gonna eat our guards lunch.

Jiri had his best game of the season by far. Maybe he can keep this up instead of his normal fat chick, I don't want to attitude.

The major thing that I say today was fight, fire, hustle. The clones were just more determined to get rebounds, loose balls, etc. Much better defense all the way around today too. Of course it helps when Iowa couldn't shoot. The hawks still had plenty of open, they didn't make them. Drake was making shots they had no business taking. Makes a big difference in how games play out.
It would be nice if somehow, someone in cardinal and gold would catch fire from the outside. It just feels like there has to be a shooter somewhere on this team.

It was great to see Garrett got 20 important minutes tonight, I would be surprised if they weren't working him into a starting role soon. I am sure that Sean Haluska is a nice guy, but he is not a Division 1 basketball player. With Diante getting more minutes and Wes playing more and more at the 2, Sean may not play much the rest of the year.
Peterson really impressed me tonight. He didn't dominate the game, but he played a lot better than he has this year when you look at the entire game and played well enough to win. It seemed like things started to click for him more than previous games.

Wesley looked like he was moving better out there, and with him at 75% or better, this team will be competitive. Iowa definitely missed Tony Freeman......they didn't look anything like they did against UNI. | |

Slower = less likely to run someone over = more likely that I don't get yelled at = I get to keep going.
Running fast is fun, but the first time I run someone over is the last time I'll ever be allowed to run...
Glad to see the crowd into the game today, though it felt a little weird to not have harassing chants (like for Piere Pierce) or booing everytime someone touched the ball (Huluska) like we have the last few years...
Oh well, "Kelly" made a good subsitute target
Winning was fun too | Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly! Go Cyclones, in accordance with Prophecy |

I was just looking at the box score on ESPN, and what jumped out to me was that with the exception of Cole, the Iowa big guys were held scoreless.
Tate, Looby, Gorney=0 pts.
Usually Looby can get a couple of back pick dunks and some offensive putbacks, Gorney hits a couple of 17 footers, and Tate gets a couple of freethrow line jumpshots.
Nice work holding them all scoreless. Kelly and Cole are going to be good, though.

I think the rebounding was around 40-35, in our favor. That's what was on the score ring near the very end of the game.
