I love this! Clark has some fun with McD in pressers.

Re: This guy at CR Gazette is a piece of work..

If all those screaming fans had been in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and supporting the Hawkeyes, Iowa probably wins this game.
Anyone else find that funny?

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

Something else that's pretty funny is that Hawk fans hate Hlas too. He's a pretty crap journalist all around.

I personally like to read Cyclone articles that are biased towards the good guys, so if someone wants to be a Hawkeye shill to get readership, I'm ok with that.

Yep, especially since last year there were about 1/2 ISU fans at that game in Carver and their attendance this year is worse than last.

I was gonna say... put the comments about the Hawk slant away - thats just a terribly written piece all together. The Hawk slant just caps off what was always a terrible article.

As for the Gazette/CR news... I HATE listening to the news/reading the paper when I'm back in CR for break. I can't stand all the Hawk slant/Anti ISU reporting. Everytime I go home I feel like I'm sufficating... Oh well now that I've re-painted my car Red and Gold, going home ought to atleast give me a few kicks this time around

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

No, no there weren't. I was there, in the student section. There were a fair number of ISU fans, but Carver was almost sold out, with only a few hundred open single seats. Most of them were Iowa fans - maybe 2,000 ISU fans last season.

That being said, last year was also one of the very rare times that ISU was ahead of Iowa in average attendance, and it was very close. Iowa usually averages 13,000+ fans per game (and much like ISU, those 13,000 were only really there for good teams, or when the team was rolling). So these CHA jokes, while applicable this season, aren't really based on much.

Also, FWIW, Iowa has a better winning % in Carver over the last 5 years than ISU does.

Anyways, back on topic...

I don't think any "journalist" (in quotes because finding a real sports journalist - or real journalist - in the state of Iowa is rare these days), slant ISU or slant Iowa, has nothing really to brag about. This game was predicted to be bad, and it was. Home court played a major role, as Iowa probably would have won by the same margin in CHA (assuming a crowd would have actually showed up).

The teams are bad this year. Equally bad. ISU got demolished by UNI and Drake, and Iowa beat UNI, lost to ISU, and will probably also get demolished by Drake. The thing is though, Mac and Lick are both pulling in good recruiting classes, and both are very good coaches. This rivalry will be fantastic in a few years, and I'm excited for the future of both programs.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Not quite...

DM Rag = Omaha WH (theoretically, as DM Rag is the "state" paper, but it's more like LTE...)

CR Gazette = QC Times = Sioux City paper (as basically only those that live in CR are going to get Gazette, like those that live in QC will get the Times. But the Rag is available across the state)

Ames paper = Iowa City paper

Re: This guy at CR Gazette is a piece of work..

The CR Gazette & KCRG Ch9 are owned by the same outfit. Ch 9 might be even more biased. They would love to get the broadcast rights to Hawk games, hence the pandering. You think Hlass is bad, you should try John Campbell. On the other hand, they are only 30 miles from Iowa City, and their audience is no doubt 80% Hawkeye. Same could be said for Ch 2 & 7, but they at least acknowledge the Cyclones existence.

The Gazette covers two things well. First and formost the success of the Hawkeyes. Second anything negative about the Cyclones.

The funny thing about Hlas is that he hasn't had many things to write about with the success of the Hawkeyes so I guess when times are tough you turn to bashing the Cyclones. Great journalism.

Absolute horse crap.... there were WAY more than a couple thousand ISU fans there last year.... try 5K minimum (I was there too). Maybe not the 1/2 I stated above(that was hyperbole, duh). Also, iowa has fine paid attendance I will give you that, but they have had an empty seat problem for years and last year was horrid. This year is worse.... way to support you new coach.

Re: This guy at CR Gazette is a piece of work..

And if iowa had won - it would have been an "epic game between two embattled teams, and the undermanned iowa hawkeyes, without their star player managed to ride pure emotion over and ISU team with the services of their best player. And at the end of the day, then angles sang, the heavenly trumpets blared, and a single ray of light shown brightly upon the iowa team bus all the way back to the promised land...."

Ahhhh....

SH: the 'paid' attendance has been a little behind JHHC (stats speak for themselves)... but the actual attendance of CHA is and HAS been behind JHHC for a while and it isn't even close....

not sure what the problem here is. He may as well cater to the audience that is most responsible for paying his check. Besides, who really cares what he says.

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!
