My point is, this whole thing that ISU fans are more loyal than Iowa fans is based on nothing. Iowa has averaged higher attendance in almost all sports than ISU for years. Not to mention, a huge number of fans travel for bowl games, tournament games (yeah, those two tourney games), and so on. The fact that for the first 4 home games of the season attendance has been low is a moot point.

It's kind of funny how people can talk about me using "circular logic", when in fact they're doing the same thing. I'm not questioning how loyal the ISU fan base is - it's very loyal. Iowa increased season ticket sales over last year (I believe), in both football and basketball, despite the poor previous seasons. Iowa also averaged only 200 less people at basketball games than ISU did.

I understand the point that basketball attendance this year has been poor - it has been. The competition has been poor, the team has been poor, late nights on week nights, and high ticket prices make it difficult for many fans to want to get out there and watch the game. It's just how it is. ISU football fans showed up in droves this season - but you can't tell me that marketing and an attractive schedule (Oklahoma, Iowa, Texas, KSU, and CU) didn't play a part in that - because it definitely did.

Re: LickLiter takes a jab at the hawk fans

Here's where you and I differ. I can't speak for every Cyclone, but if I had season tickets to Hilton, I would plan virtually my entire life around the games (within reason) and absolutely would not miss a game if we were 0-22. I enjoy watching our team now and we aren't world beaters.
It's kind of funny. To be honest I never gave a crap about college athletics before I came here. I didn't even buy tickets to either football or basketball last year. I went to one football game, and loved the "Cyclone Power" chant. Went to a wrestling meet, thought it was fun to watch. Went to a gymnastics meet, thought it was a lot more entertaining than professional. Starting picking up all the hype about Chizik and everything else, and decided I'd get season tickets to fb and bball and a Cy's Pass. I've attended every event I could (those two plus soccer, softball and wrestling) and now check this site every day. It's infectious...the atmosphere is great, the fans are dedicated and it's a great way to spend a couple hours. Can I say whether I am better than the average Hawk fan? Not sure. But I wouldn't trade ISU for anyone. No matter the record, no matter the score, I'm proud of this university and it's athletes.

GO STATE!

ISU women get 957 more fans per home game than the Iowa Men
This is border line embarrassing for the Hawks. On the other hand, I love the support our ladies get! Students need to come out and support a great team as often as you can.

official boxscore says there was 9,120 at that WF/Iowa game. IDK is that was how many tickets were sold or exactly how many were in the stands...

Everybody else's point that you are totally disregarding is that we aren't talking about the last 25 years. We're talking about after a coaching change in which many Hawk fans said that they would come back, people are doing the opposite. They are staying away in droves. Iowa has a great fanbase, I have said this many times, but the myth of them being one of the best fanbases in the country is a load of bull. Iowa supports winners just like everybody else. The thing everybody else is talking about is that when there was a coaching change ISU fans came out to support the coach. Iowa had a coaching change at a position where many people demanded it and now those same fans are not supporting this coach. THAT IS THE ARGUMENT HERE. This is why people are getting frustrated with you in this thread and passing off your posts as spin. This isn't about how many fans you bring to bowl games.

LOL, I said in a previous post that it may have been around 9,000 as well. I didn't look at the score, I was judging by what I saw. I know that 5,000 empty (or 6,000 in this case) seats at CHA looks REALLY empty.

And I get what everybody's point is. My point is that there are other factors than just "Hey, you guys aren't supporting your new coach." IMO, it has a lot to do with quality of opponents, single ticket prices (which again, you can't expect only the 9,000 season ticket holders to show up), time of games (week nights at 8:00), and win/loss.

Now, if you want to get into a debate on whether the student section is being supportive or not, there is no excuse for them not being there.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.
