Re: Fan falls and dies during Vikings-49ers game
This happened to a kid living in Ames two summers ago. He tried to jump up and sit on the railing of a deck a few floors up, he died instantly.
A friend and I were talking about this at a Cyclone game this year. When they shoot those t-shirts off into the crowd, how close do some people get to the railing? I always get a little nervous when people start running to get t-shirts, foul balls, etc near the edge of the upper deck.

I smell a lawsuit coming. Some lawyer will try to get his 15 minutes of fame on this.

Sad. I still feel nervous when I'm close to a ledge like that.

I was at an I-Cubs game a few years ago when they were shooting t-shirts into the crowd. One bounced off a wall in left field, and landed below a luxury box. Some idiot decided to jump onto the field from the balcony. He didn't die, but he broke his leg and had to be helped off the field.

Oh you can bet on that. They will get some sort of law into effect that requires the railings to be even higher and someone must be watching the crowd in such way that noone can do anything dangerous around it.

They should just cage us all in, to prevent us from hurting ourselves... I mean jumping up on a railing? I wonder how many beers had been consumed at that point.

I don't know about this... There are railings absolutley everywhere... the mall, hospitals almost any place that as an open atrium has an area that if you fell from you might die... I think that an individual has some responsibility in this too. If you wrap your car around a telephone pole you don't sue the telephone company.

No kidding. Alot of this crap is done by people who probably make dumb choices in every aspect of their lives leading up to this one moment. While its tragic, he could have prevented it, Im sure.

Oh I totally agree. But the reason we have all of that stuff, is because there are people who always push those boundaries. Someone puts up a fence, they climb over the fence, so they build a higher fence. Its an ugly cycle of stupidity vs reality.
