Our defense played great I thought, they kept us in the game. Our offensive coordinator needs to figure how to call games in the 2nd half, even the end of the 1st half (that was STUPID to sit on that ball, just STUPID). Another 3 point output in the 2nd half is terrible. I will give him credit for going for it on 4th and 10, I thought we needed to do that after Bradtner's previous punt.
after a few minutes of breaking glass, etc, I would like to point out that Iowa was sure in a damn hurry to run across the field to claim the trophy! I thought that they didn't give a ***** about this game. could have fooled me!
Kudos to Mac for going for the 4th and 10. Yeah, it didn't work out this time, but it was gutsy.
I didn't like the call on 4th and 10; I thought it was too early, but it certainly didn't cost us the game.
I did like the fact that ISU was able to establish the run. On offense I think that's going to be the key during conference play.
I am a little concerned about how tired the defense looked, but that's you have to give credit to Iowa's offense for wearing them down.
My take is that I actually agree w/ DMac's call to go for it on 4th and 10. Our D had been on the field too long, were getting tired, and come on, two and a half games for a team that returns three starters and they're playing like this in front of a hostile 76000 strong crowd - pretty impressive, but they were tired. I just hope to not see so many people jumping on the bandwagon of "about time DMac got aggressive, just at the wrong juncture in the game." For once, finally, he did something to go down swinging; not simply fullback dive, fullback dive, I-back off tackle. I do think that if he was pondering going for it, you do run on second down, and then throw on third. Look how much of a difference a yard would've made if Meyer had to do that same run again - first down!
I think that this game was the tale of halves: we played quite dominantly in the first half, and the second we just didnt' make the adjustments. I am not sure if this doesn't happen at half w/ coaches, if the other team is just a slight step ahead of us when they come out of the locker room or what, but thats how it has been all year.
I do agree that finally, FINALLY, Iowa players are taking us seriously. Is it good that we lost - F No! Is it great that their starters are saving themselves (and almost losing) and coming out in the DM Rag saying that this is a big game - yes! What we can't stand for is letting this demorilize us the whole year - we have the BIG 12 North up for grabs, and we can do it (yes I am drinking a bit of Red Kool-Aid).
That's my rant - too many Squawkeye fans here in Denver but the Clone bar held its own :)
i just got the dreaded call from my Iowa colleague. I was suprised to hear the following: "Finally, Finally!, I was so sick of losing to ISU". The guy was downright giddy with the victory. Unfortunately for him, he still owes me a month worth of beer at our happy hour spot due to the spread!!
ummmmm....maybe if we would have kept taking it to the Hawkeye defense and not become so predictable, we wouldn't have had such a tired defense because by moving the chains we would have kept the Iowa offense off the field. Then the 4th and 10 call becomes a moot point.
Does it bother anyone that we have scored 15 second half points, not counting the overtimes agains Toledo??? I can see it happening once, but all three games???
It has become a scary trend, and it all comes back to philosophy. We put our defense in position for things like this to happen, therefore it does.
As much as we should have thrown the ball, we have to give some credit to Meyer and Hicks - 74 and 73 yards respectively. Stevie had some great plays - much better than the 2-to-3 yard averages we usually see. Iowa hasn't been getting the rep of having the top defense in the nation for nothing.
Anyone else think it's unfortunate that there wasn't a better shot of where Meyer was holding the ball on that disputed 4th and 10 play - it looked like it very well could have been a first down.
Watched the game on TV...The Offense looked great at times, Man, there were some holes out there, ( That was probably the best running by Stevie in a long time) Good job offensive line...Is it me or is everyone tired of QB Draws..The defense was young....I thought our DB's played not very good...Hey Chris, when that tall TE is going for the ball, and you have a chance to plant your shoulder pads in his sternum, and then miscalculate and he comes up with the ball after a bobble, that is a problem... Coach Ash & Skladaney are you listening...we will struggle this year, the games will be fun to watch because the Clones play up to or down to the level of their opponent. I just found out about the player's dad that died-Really Sad....I believe we will get them next year in Ames...I think Michigan & Ohio State will beat Iowa like red-headed step children...HITMAN
I see no way that Hawk fans can rationally believe that they will beat Michigan or Ohio St.
