In addition to finals week, Iowa State guard Wesley Johnson is getting some rest and relaxation as well.
“He’ll be on the shelf four or five days off to give him some rest,’’ Iowa State basketball coach Greg McDermott said today. “I don’t anticipate he’ll practice until at least Thursday.’’
Johnson is trying to come back from a bone bruise in his left foot that has limited his season to just four games so far. McDermott said last week that if the injury doesn’t improve during the week off, Johnson might apply for a medical hardship.
Iowa State doesn’t play again until a Dec. 17 game with Bethune-Cookman at Hilton Coliseum.

Anyone have a clue how long Greg has to decide on this?

He'll decide by the end of the weekend. I think he'll have a pretty good idea by Friday or Saturday after he Wes rests and stays off the foot as much as possible. They're pretty much just trying to see if its going to get better in a couple weeks or if it's going to take a couple months to be 100%. If it looks like it's going to take a month or two, they'll file for the medical redshirt.

Wes can play up to 30% of the games I believe. I think he can play in 4 more games. Don't quote me on that

I think you'll have an answer by this time next week as to what their plans are.

They are not going to redshirt him, if they were going to, mac would be sitting him at this point. Why would you let him play and take time away from others who are going to be needed in the big12?

I think Greg understands that if we go into the Big 12 with Peterson and Haluska as our starting guards we're screwed anyway, might as well play your best player when you have the chance.
