Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
I heard the Hawkeye fans were quite rude to our cheer leaders... and some of it was just straight up embarrassing to know that people from our state talk like that... this is in comparison to what they hear from other fans at other stadiums...
ESPN was commenting on how yes, it's a rivalry... but people from Iowa are so nice in general that it's not the hateful rivalry that other places have... boy were they wrong on that.
This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine. -
Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
All teams have good fans and bad, but I do think there is a higher percentage of Hawk fans that are on the obnoxious side. I mentioned this in another thread, but I lived in MN for several years and Gopher fans have the same impression that Hawkeye fans are rude and annoying. It can be embarassing when people like that are traveling to other states and representing our state.

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
This type of thread happens every year with the losing team. I went to the game 3 years ago in Ames and NOT ONE cylone fan came up to me (I was wearing a hawkeye shirt) and said a thing. Last year in Ames I was nearly assaulted by clone fans who believe it or not said the exact same thing "get out of AMes you etc. etc. etc. hawk fan.
If you want to witness worse I suggest developing another rivalry with a conference foe. Wisconsin fans are notorious in the big 10 for being downright scary. Most opposing fans fear for their lives. If you were not physically Threatened then it was no big deal.

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
I tailgated next to Hawk fans all morning and had zero problems. Now in the stadium was completely different; they were throwing things at us, cussing at us and even got the cops because we were standing up to watch the game (they were standing up as well). An officer-in-training-on-a-power-trip told us we cant stand up or they will haul us out, what a joke.

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
I must have missed something- what happened to Monkey?
And as for Hawk fans yelling things at our cheerleaders, boy were they ever. Our dance team was on the north end zone near the band, but in front of the large Hawk section in the northeast corner. The first 10 rows or so consisted primarily of grouchy old rednecks, who spent most of the game yelling astonishingly inappropriate (and sexual) things at the ladies. I was absolutely disgusted that they could bring themselves to do that. If I had just been there as a fan, I likely would have marched over there and given them a lecture on chivalry and basic human decency, on the off-chance some of it might have penetrated their thick primordial skulls.
True and Valiant
I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
You're good people, Ornry. One would hope that it would help - although (sadly), who knows? It's unfortunate that good-will representatives of our school (cheerleaders, band, etc.) would be heckled.
I think Monkey engaged in fisticuffs, from the sounds of it (his response earlier this thread). Maybe he was giving the same type of speech you wanted to give?

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
I appreciate the offer Angie, but don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. Ornry--I was in that endzone and heard much of what you are referring too. Just makes me sick that these people think that is ok.

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
The Michigan Autoworker fans will make short shrift of the Hawkeye fans. They are unionized and do not like pukes.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
THEY think and act like they are the Kings of Iowa City. That and a bag of popcorn will get them little in their small world. Maybe that is why they have so many belligerent fans. One belligerent attracts another hooligan. It is not proper to act like hooligans (sorry monkeybrow) very similar to the British national soccer team fandom. Tate is their Beckham.

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
It goes both ways, last ISU game I was at while walking back to my car a girl tried to start a fight with me by telling me IOWA SUCKS relentlessly even after we had won the game i ignored her, but then she grabbed me and proceeded to tell me it again and again, i laughed.
when i got back to my car it was being sat on by ISU fans and was covered with trash. probably cause i had hawkeye plates. I then noticed it was keyed saying "***" on my door!
these posts **** me off. you think these kind of things don't happen at every college football game. they do and ISU fans are no exception. Stop directing your anger and frustration over the game at how "AWEFUL" iowa is. of course you remember all the bad things that happened you're angry. Where's your post about the fun times and ocassions you had in IC? Exactly!
Get over yourself. does Iowa have some bad apples, of course they do. Show me a program that doesn't and i'll show you a program that doesn't really care! Real intelligent of you to judge all by the actions of the few. In you're logic i guess we should just accept that all ISU fans are hicks and sleep with their sisters...........
you can ask any team about any opposing team and you'll get a 50/50 response good vs bad. higher percentage of bad fans give me a break!

Re: Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick
We beat you guys fair and square. If you had won, you wouldn't be posting this rediculous thread. EVERY and I mean EVERY school has jerks, including almighty and holy Iowa State University. Iowa fans have come up to me, an Iowa fan, and screamed in my face too. It's college football! I can recall several situations where your fans were obnoxious and acting like jerks in the last eight years but I won't go there.
I am sure you did run in to some jerks at Kinnick Stadium. Beer is free-flowing, ISU is in town, it is to be expected. But don't you dare go posting that all Iowa fans are jerks. I have never once sat next to fan of an opposing team that I felt was going overboard.
The comments made to start this thread are stupid, ignorant, and just as classless as you think we Iowa fans are.
By the way, go add up all the stats from the 30 games that Iowa and ISU has played since 1977. Iowa DOMINATES. Perhaps you are upset or a bit jealous of Iowa's success, or you may be some teenage punk who knows nothing about football. I don't know. Whatever the case may be, quit crying about how Iowa fans are hurting your feelings. It just makes me and most other fans, Iowa and ISU, sick as well.
Just shut up already!
Enjoy your 7-5 season and trip to Shreveport or Boise!!

I'm pretty sure nobody cares what you think, if all you came here for is to insult us or ISU. It's sad that you have to cruise an ISU fan site to feel big about yourself. Amy was expressing what happened happened to her - there is nothing "stupid" or "ignorant" about her emotions and experiences. What is "stupid and "ignorant" is to be a jerk to people IN YOUR OWN STATE. She would have said the same thing if she'd gone to K-State or somewhere else and had the same experience. Good God.
Brady12 - we are sorry about your experiences. The entire point of this thread is that we are ISU fans who DON'T feel it necessary to act like that.
