Hawkeye Fan in and around Kinnick

As usual, Hawkeye fan did not disappoint me as there were several that were complete jerks! This is my third time to Kinnick and I've never been so frustrated. Walking down Melrose I had grown men screaming in my face while I was chatting with my friend who happens to be a Hawkeye fan. The man who sat behind me made the game nearly intolerable--and he is my favorite kind of Hawk fan--the equal opportunity offender...cussing out his own coaches and players as well as ISU.

After the game, I was standing across from Kinnick chatting with a friend and was told to "get the F out of Iowa City" and this gentleman even offered to escort me off the premesis. Oddly enough, I was with a male ISU friend and he yelled in my face and left the guy alone. That's the definition of cowardness.

I can handle the general bickering back and forth, but this year, Hawk fan went above and beyond. I don't know that I will EVER spend my money in Iowa City again. The game was good and our guys played tough. I am not disappointed with the efforts. But, the last time I checked...I don't play. Let's leave the game on the field.

It's quite disappointing when people have to act like that. Geesk. But, you're right about the game. The team played pretty well.

Poor Amy!! Remember how you were saying that us Midwestern girls are too polite and genteel for UNLV? The exact same must be true of Iowa fans. To be threatened at a game you paid good money to their university to see - definitely not cool.

I think Hawkeye fan and Nebraska fan are quite similar. They think they're entitled to something for some reason.

And all my friends had stories about the idiots that were around them...and I was with ALL Iowa fans. There was an ISU couple that tried to sit where they had bought their tickets by two of my friends and another couple harrassed them and said they refused to sit by ISU people GROW UP!

Also...just a note...I kept my mouth shut and ignored everyone except the guy who offered to escort me back to "Lames". He invaded my personal space so that was the real source of my anxiety.

My question - were they offended by the fact that our guys played a good game? Did they expect to just roll over us, and then decided to take out their frustration on our fans when they didn't? The #19 team in the nation had to put up a really strong fight at home - while that has to be a little bit of a blow to the ego, there is NO excuse for threats, rudeness, etc. And towards a woman??

Refusing to sit by ISU fans??? That's freaking ridiculous - everyone's tickets were paid for by someone. What a bunch of children.

AmyK you should have maced the bugger. The audacity he had to yell at your presumably kind face. A good knee to his groin would have also been effective. Glad that you survived your trip that den of debauchery. If only Monkeybrow had. RIP MB...

I think if someone does that to a woman, she should be allowed to pepper spray him. That would have been funny. You could claim you felt threatened.

I was at the game today; walked to the tail-gate from Burlington Street in downtown and walked back thru the Pentecrest (to meet a ride) after the game. I tail-gated both before and after in the parking lot just north of the stadium and south of the practice bubble. I'm guessing there were maybe ten Cyclone fans in the lot and 400 Hawkeye fans. I was wearing Cyclone apparel. I actually thought Hawk Fan was incredibly well behaved today! Could it be that your behavior elicited the negative reactions you describe? Just wondering....

All of the situations were unwarranted. I did nothing but talk to my friends and wear a red Iowa State shirt. I do not want to be misleading...I'm not saying ALL Hawk fans were bad, but there were enough situations where I felt uncomfortable and it was beyond just general ribbing. It's always a small percentage that ruins it for everyone.

My wife, who is an Iowa grad, was harassed by many different people at Jack Trice last year before, during, and after the Iowa/ISU game. In a rivalry game, it doesn't matter where you go, that kind of stuff happens. Not just at Iowa.
