Are our receivers over-rated?
Do any of them have a TD other than Blythe?
I was one of the people who thought that this offense was going to be unstoppable, but it's far, far from it.
Were my expectations too high?

you appears to me that Meyer is not seeing the open man (tight end over the middle anyone?) and is play has been spotty for the first couple of games. but...he will get it going.
and clone...my god....your karma level is dropping something dangerously

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
I was about to nag, but then after looking it up, Clone2thebone is right... Out of the 60 points we've scored off of TDs, 18 of those points belong to Todd Blythe. The rest were scored from rushing TDs.
When are we going to get our passing game going?

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
The karma level is not my fault. My offensive line can't make any holes for me, so I keep getting tackled for a loss.

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
I think they had a slow start, and with the schedule coming up, it might look like it is continuing. But I believe we have great receivers. Better receivers than fans......at least they aren't jumping ship.

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
As soon as Barney Cotton realizes that we have one of the best groups of receivers in the league and that Stevie Hicks is just a good back.
Throw the ball deep to Blythe and Sumrall and it will comletely open everything else up. Even if it is incomplete it will at least make them respect our deap threats.
How can you get the ball to Blythe 3 times in the last 2 games. It's rather rediculous. How many did Blythe catch Saturday?

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
He caught 4 passes, but for 45 yards.

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
the plays have been there however....and bret has missed some golden chances....following the Texas game....I fully expect him to have a good campaign

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
I'm with Clone2theBone here. I have a question...Why haven't we thrown the ball downfield ONE TIME THIS SEASON YET? Meyer threw a 25-yd TD to Blythe in OT against Toledo but we haven't taken a shot downfield and we are 1/4 of the way through the season!
I don't agree that Stevie is an average back. I think he showed on Saturday what he could do. Over 5 yards per carry against a good run stopping defense. But he only had like 17 carries...

During the first half, he seemed to be spreading the ball pretty well (although it was clear that it was a running offense by the numbers alone). Just need to get into our stride...

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
I have several Hawk friends that were happy we were trying to run all day because of how good our receivers are.

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
That's what I mean. Do we really have great receivers or do we just think we do?
Personally, I think that Flynn is the one we can afford to lose the least.

However...he did drop 2 catchable balls Saturday.
I'm still waiting to see Maquis Hamilton. In the spring we heard how good this kid was and it would be hard to keep him off the field this fall. Well, he's been out there but clearly as a decoy or something. Maybe he did not have a good fall...who knows.
Folks want to talk all about how we should get the ball to #1 more and I do agree. But the biggest "tragedy" IMO is not getting the ball to our tight ends more. The safeties are so concerned with Blythe and the other receivers that it's leaving our tight ends open or being "covered" by linebackers.
Get 'em the ball...keep those safeties honest...THEN go deep to Blythe & Co.
The misuse of Nickel and Barkema lands on the shoulders of Fitch and Meyer. Bret missed a WIDE open tight end in the 3rd quarter, choosing to go 10 yards on the sideline to Blythe. Hit the tight end and we get a TD instead of that field goal in the 2nd half.

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
We've rarely utilized the TE's under Mac. I don't see that changing anytime soon.
If we haven't opened up our offense yet, what are we waiting for? Meyer has been QB for 3 years. He knows the system.
The team with the most points win, right? What gives?

Re: Are our receivers over-rated?
IMO, Mac has been trying to establish our run game to get it ready for Big 12 play. After last year, this was an area that really did need to be established, and after watching it on Saturday, I think its good and ready to play with our Big 12 foes. Our coaches and us fans fully know what are receivers are capable of doing, but have questioned our run game this whole off season. IMO we know have a solid dual threat with our offense, and I look for our passing game to start and open up alot more come this Saturday!
