In Mac's press conference yesterday, he said that they had hoped for him to be back by the Texas game, but it will probably be the UNI game. No later than Nebraska.

Also per the Rag this morning:

RECOVERING: James Smith, a redshirt freshman projected to be a starting safety for Iowa State, could be available for the Sept. 30 game against Northern Iowa, coach Dan McCarney said.

He broke his right ankle in practice on Aug. 9.

McCarney also said Travis Ferguson, out since preseason drills because of a shoulder injury, also could return for the game against the Panthers.
