Re: Jeremy a question please?

Yeah, if you post an opinion, you obviously get Karmafied.

Maybe we can do a % also suck +4/-10 is equal to 40%. Obviously the popular people are the ones who can do +5/-1 or 500%. That would make it look so we know who is more well thought of. Now watch me get Karmafied.

Discombwhatever made it up to +20/-60 or 33%. So he was only semi-replusive in his editorilizing. He certainly took a different slant on his version of how things were. Soime people use to call it pouty mouth.

So to recap: make the computer do the math and provide a %. Later on we could rank the best and the worst ratings.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

Not that the karma thing is that big of a deal to me or anything, I'll live with my -13, soon to be worse... but a suggestion would maybe be to go back to what you were doing on the old site. You had a 10 star rating system. This way each person could only give you a rating once. Instead of getting -15 from one person who dislikes you, you'll only get that person's opinion once so it won't look like everybody on the site hates you. (most people seem to vote if they dislike a post rather than if they like it anyway). The only think different from the previous sites rating system would be to allow people to change their raking of you. They may change their mind after reading future posts.

Or leave it as it is, I really don't mind either way.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

I have no problems with anyone who wants to be "negative" I'm sure when football season rolls around I will be brutally honest in my assessment of Danny Mac, it just seems that every thread I've read with Dis. always turned into a mud slinging exhibition. You can be critical without being childish people. And Wes, it shouldn't matter how many negative reviews you have gotten. State your opinons in a non-personal way, and nobody will care.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

Melkor, it isn't that he is preventing an alternative viewpoint that made him annoying, I for one welcome dissension. The guy just came on here looking to argue, and that was one of the reasons that I stopped posting. It was like if anyone said something was black, Dis. would say no it is white just to argue. I know people like that in my real life, and I don't talk to them either. We all have our own opinions, I don't see things the same as you do. That does not make me right and you wrong, and vice versa. If you are worried about your reputation on a chat board, then maybe you should address that within your personal life.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

Now that Discom is gone, all of our karma ratings will likely improve :D

I'm excited as hell about GMac and the direction of the basketball program, yet my karma rating sucks. Go figure! ???

Raising Karma punchouts periods from one to two hours also will help us. We mightl get less Karmafied. I figure one negative comment is worth about four Karmas.

Thanks, Jeremy. I certainly don't mind having someone who posts differing opinions, but when someone comes on the forum to simply highjack threads and make personal attacks on others that disagree with his opinions, then he needs to go. I admit I was one of the 50 that complained yesterday. Once he stooped to name-calling without adding anything to the conversation and inerrupting every thread with his hateful rants, it was time for him to leave the forum.

I never saw discombobulated start the name-calling. He might have fired back at people, but I never same his start calling people names out of the blue. Could you please provide an example of when he initiated a case of name-calling?

I was going to copy and paste an example, but it's no longer there so I suspect it was deleted by the moderators after I complained. In the thread concerning Baylor being chosen for the NIT I asked disombobulated if he would please keep his negative posts about ISU in the appropriate threads. His reply was that I was a "*******". Although I've disagreed with his opinions, I've never attacked him, nor insulted him. This is definitely an example of a time when he initiated a case of name-calling.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

The thing is some of these boos are ridiculous. I've read the comments. Of my two boos, one booed me as a "test," then put a ;-) after "test," and the other guy booed me because he remembers me from another board, not because of something I said here. At least be fair about it.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

I am working on a revised karma feature set that makes it easier to keep the boos under control. After people get done playing around with the Karma feature, I will reset all the scores and put the new limitations in place to help keep things more accurate:) Thanks for being patient as I work on the site's feature-set.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: Jeremy a question please?

OK, I can see the buttons now. :)
For example:

Karma: +22/-7
[applaud] [boo]

But, I question whether someone who has never posted is able to.

If that is not your intent, you may want to test it some yourself, or ask others here to respond if the problem is system specific. It is hard for me to believe you wouldn't want everyone to use this feature. Most people probably post at some point, but many don't. To me the results would seem a little skewed if they didn't include the entire audience.

More generally, I agree that you need some adjustments. It wouldn't be surprising though to see people with strong opinions to elicit both high positives and high negatives in any case. It can't be helped at times, but it also gets back to the idea of treating others with respect. It can give you an idea also of whether you are making a persuasive argument, but I hope people don't feel they have to think or worry about this feature too much.

Surely, most Cyclone fans have positive karma. ;D

Re: Jeremy a question please?

I had setup the Karma rating system so you could only vote once you had 5 or more posts on the forums. I have changed it so you can after your first post. I should have stated that in the beginning as I'm sure that was causing quite a few people to wonder what in the heck was going on:)

Re: Jeremy a question please?

Thanks. That sounds reasonable. Obviously you will need more explanation, like on the Help page. Clicking on the Members tab and then on the Posts column twice I see you have a lot of Newbies with zero posts, about 31 pages or 75 percent. :)

I just did. What more do you want? I don't have to prove anything more to you. If you want to believe discombobulated never did this I don't care. I made the moderators aware of his actions and they responded appropriately by deleting the post and removing the instigator.
