Giving the girls some love

Street & Smith has the ISU women ranked 23 in the preseason.

http://www.dmregister.com/apps/pbcs....20601/60929030

I have a feeling that Coach Fennely and the women's squad are going to have a heck of a season. There is a strong possibility that they are going to be our only hope for post season basketball succcess this year. I fear that the men are going to have some growing pains this year, so let's all make sure we show the women the support they deserve.

Tried to give you some love in return...still need to spread it around before I can do that.

The women's team has been so fun to go watch in the past. I went all the time when Angie Welle and Tracy Gahan were there...of course, I was also in school then.

Cyclone Fanatic night at a Women's game? I'm in!

Thumbs up Re: Giving the girls some love

This is really encouraging. Frankly I've been discouraged about
WBB, but, I see the logic in this. There must be great expectations for Rachel and confidence in Meders, Ronhovde and Ezell and the bench. If Nicky acquires some of the attitude that Wilkins finished with - this could be a great year. I'm also looking forward to seeing Genesis, if for no other reason than to hear the announcer. Lacey and other frosh also could make major contributions. Has anyone seen the workouts?

Why not us?

Re: Giving the girls some love

It seems like most everyone agrees that our women are going to have a stellar year. Why does nobody talk about them here? I've always thought it was too bad that the women's team gets just a fraction of the attention and support that the men do.

So- how is our team looking now? Has anything changed in the last few weeks? I really don't know a whole lot about this group; what to expect of them, etc.

And yeah, I think CF night at a women's game would be pretty sweet.

Re: Giving the girls some love

If Medders and Pierson are/stay healthy I believe that we will have a good year. We return 4(?) starters and if the frosh are half as solid as has been reported, then I believe we will have a strong team this season.

We attended a pair of ISU women's NCAA games in Ames a few years back. Ladies played great and it was a blast!

Four starters, plus Rachel who is gonna dominate inside. She's gonna pick up where Brit left off. That, and she's beautiful. Heck, most of the team is beautiful. That right there is a reason why a lot of you should grab some tickets early on in the season and catch a game!!! And then when you see how rockin the team plays, you'll wanna come back for more good basketball! We're always in the, what, top 10 for avg attendance at wbb games in the ncaa?

Re: Giving the girls some love

I love the women's basketball team, I've always had a great time watching them, but with MBB Season tickets it's hard to get to a lot of games, because I'd be spending half my free time in Ames.

That being said, if anybody is even remotely interested in seeing a game, you should, it's a great time.

Only moderately creepy...

Just joking.

haha. Maybe not quite as creepy for those of us in college with these girls. ;-) Can't a guy be hopeful that one of these beautiful atheletes might choose a band nerd? haha. What we need is tegan stuart back.... ;-)

Re: Giving the girls some love

C.John, I am with ya. Coach has a solid program and from what I have heard Pierson is one terrific talent. We make the trip to see them when they visit/play the Texas schools and they are a great bunch! If you haven't ever attended a game you need to.

Re: Giving the girls some love

Over the past few years, Big 12 WBB seems to have gravitated to a game dominated by strong post play and rebounding. That hasn't exactly been ISU's strong suit since Angie Welle left, but last year was encouraging. If ISU can build upon the improvement in post play and rebounding that started last year, the women should have a very good year.

Re: Giving the girls some love

When Rachel came in, Fennelly talked about her having the ability of being better than Angie Welle by the time she was done. Pretty high praise. Don't expect her to be at that level this year, but can't wait to see her play.
