Re: Learning from tonight

If our players make mistakes, it's not because of bad coaching. It's actually because of ghosts that haunt the stadium. I thought everyone knew about the ghosts who love turnovers and really loose coverage.

I certainly saw the ghost of the Baylor game last year when Austin fumbled the ball at the goal line...

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

Good post darts180. How could it be this coaching staff's fault? They are not on the field? I think more and more people are starting to realize what we have been saying about this staff for some time now. It just takes time I guess. I just hope that if we win against NE or TT that people don't forget games like UNI, Toledo, and UNLV. It seems one good game makes up for 5-6 bad games.

Re: Learning from tonight

While everyone keeps reminding us that the turnovers are not necessarily the coaches fault, remember that we were down 21-7 at the HALF while only committing one turnover (although very costly!) against a D-1AA school. I don't care if you have a turnover or not, you shouldn't be down by that big at HOME to a school like UNI!! The turnover caused 7 points for UNI. OK, they got us on that play. But what about the rest of the half hadn't we turned it over? Still down 14-7? I know that the pick for a TD that Meyer threw took all momentum away from us for the first half, but it shouldn't have had such a shell-shocking effect to our team. And I believe that it is NOT the players fault that we were down 21-7 at half. UNI's staff was able to motivate their players, even after we walked all over them on our first offensive drive for a TD. They responded with a drive of their own for a TD. They did not get down, like we do after something bad happens to us. I know several people have talked about overcoming adversity in the game, and it seems like we aren't able to do that very well - just well enough to sometimes pull out a win (if it's a worse team). That's not just the players faults. Our coaching staff has to be able to motivate the team to respond with a punch in the mouth in return.

Also we were getting our ***** handed to us before the Flynn and Baum turnovers, so they don't account into the argument that it wouldn't have been close if those two hadn't turned it over. I was just amazed that our coaching staff and team were able to show they can overcome *some* adversity in the 2nd half and pull off a close win.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I-S-U!

I was frustrated as hell with the way the game went too, but my main point was that they finally made the adjustments that they needed to make.

Adjustments...as little as they were...I guess we still made them. Thank God!

Re: Learning from tonight

Does anyone know why our players kept slipping? Meyer slipped at least twice in the backfield and there were several other plays that I thought were going to be big only to have the player slip and stumble.

The good news is that we got our first touchdown in the fourth quarter so far this season. Adjustments were clearly made - later than any of us would have liked, but it's progress.

Please, please, please tell me how it is the coaches responsibility/fault for Flynn (who rarely ever fumbles) fumbling the ball into the endzone???

Please, please, please tell me how it is the coaches fault for Baum fumbling twice on that punt???

Please, please, please tell me how it is the coaches fault for Meyer throwing a pick (which he doesn't do too often) that they took back to the house???

Now darts, balls, etc. won't respond to these questions because it doesn't fit their anti-Mac speak.

You can fault the coaching staff for play-calling, decision making, etc. but how can you fault them for rare mistakes made by the players?

Re: Learning from tonight

Oh, enough of people saying that the coaches have no responsibility in how the team plays. Be realistic people, the coaches matter. Yes, the players need to execute, but the coaches do matter. It's like listening to a bunch of Chicago Cubs apologetics (and I myself am a longtime Cubs fan). Sheesh.
And as unfortunate as it was, I think the crowd being verbally upset with our team perhaps did send a message to the players... like c'mon guys, lets get it together.

that's been my point for a couple of posts. mac can't make those plays for him. turnovers haven't been as much of a problem for isu this season until the last game. now, if it's not addressed in practice this week and we have the same kind of display against nebraska, then i'll be pretty pissed.

Re: Learning from tonight

The reason you two (darts and balls) continuously get bad rep points isn't because you "don't blindly follow" but rather almost every post you make is trashing the coaching staff even if the thread isn't dealing with coaches...You provide sh*t for information and it gets old reading the same BS over and over. Everyone here knows your opinion and I don't think that either of you are going to change anyone's opinion...
