Learning from tonight

I'm not going to complain about tonight's game, and how it was so much closer than it should have been. But I hope to see some of the things the rest of the season that helped ISU pull it out tonight.

The bend but don't break defense may keep ISU in the game, but it also keeps everyone else in the game as well. Everyone knows about it, and kill them with the short passing. Seriously, are our DB's so slow that they have to be 10 yards back on 3rd and 5? The whole game completely changed once ISU started to blitz and tighten up the coverage. Not saying that they should blitz every down, or play tight on blazing fast receivers, but sometimes you just have to do it, and take the risk.

ISU's offense tore it up once they started to speed up the tempo and do the two minute thing. I know that the thinking is surely that they want to rest the defense and ball control, but wouldn't it take pressure away from the defense if the offense was posting 30 or 40? The ISU offense has the talent to put those numbers up every game. Let's turn them loose and put the pressure on the other team for a change!

The kids do have a lot of heart, and never quit. I have to give Coach credit for that.

The way Kanas was able to get back into the game was blitzing against Nebraska.

We have to Biltz the $hit out of Nebraska and estabolish some kind of running game to keep the defense off the field. But then on the other hand we have to utilize the huge advantage we have a QB and reciever, so I guess I don't what the hell to do on offense. All I know is that we have to be the most improved team in America to beat Nebraska next week. This one might get ugly considering we gave up over 400 passing yards last season with the best ISU defense ever.

not sure this was quite mccarney's fault this week. no amount of coaching makes those turnovers go away. players getting their heads out of places where they don't belong

and putting them back where they do belong

will make those turnovers go away. without those turnovers it's a quasi-comfortable win.

Thanks for the negative reputation points. I have noticed that many who don't blindly follow or have high expectations have a overall negative number. It's good to know I am in good company.

Whom ever asked in their negative response what coaching had to do with tonight's performance. Are you kidding? Seriously. I don't think that warrants a response.

Please feel free to add to my negative reputation points again or if you haven't already. Maybe you could tell me how the coaching was superb against UNI and I could learn something.

Lesson Learned: Do not dig too deep a hole that you cannot catch up likr in the football game. Also, include Reputation in that category. Look what happened to discombubalated.

i'm just saying that instead of blaming everyting on mac we have to realize that the players also need to be held accountable for the things that happen on the field. mac can't go out on the field and catch those punts for baum. mac can't cast a magical spell that keeps blythe from fumbling on the one. mac can't give meyer special goggles that shows him that the defender was sitting on the route. i'm sure all of this was covered in practice. punts aren't muffed in practice. players don't fumble on the one in practice. quarterbacks don't throw pick-6s in practice. the near heart attack of this game goes to the players' performance, not to mac (i'm hearing from other posts he actually had a decent gameplan for this game).

and no, i had nothing to do with the negative reputation points you received along the line. i'm too new to know how to do that and i'm not mean-spirited enough to do it anyway.

Wow ISU is great. They try so hard. ISU football has such good coaches. All fans are great. No matter what happens... cheer, cheer, cheer, smile, smile, smile, and support anyone affilicated with ISU sports no matter how they perform.

Go BVD... you were great too.

Didn't know if anybody saw Brackins, Walker, or McFarland. If so, did they look interested. I imagine the ending of the game might have generated a little bit of excitement for them.

No no no, ask ISU it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO not the coaching. Really, it is because the players are totally making mistakes. So the coaches, because they are NEVER at fault, are ALWAYS right, and the on;y reason that we almost lose to a 1AA school, is because our players always make mistakes, just ask Da...errrr ISU.
