Depth Chart changes on defense...
Been reading some premium information about some interesting changes on defense for this week. I think it was in Mac's press conference today but am not sure - so won't post the specifics until I know it's "public knowledge".
I am surprised by the changes.

Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
The updated Depth Chart is on Cyclones.com.....I noticed Antyba Ruba moved ahead of Nate Frere, which dosent surpirse me all that much. The biggest change is to Free Safety where Steve Johnson is listed as Number 1 replacing Jon Banks who is now behind Carper? Johnson was behind Singleton for the UNI game as a corner. Baum was also taken off the depth chart on defense.
Kind of a strange shakup to the defense, But IMO Jon Banks has been less then impressive so far this year. Have not heard much about Johnson this year, any information on him?

Yup, that's the big change. Johnson to FS, Harris is #2. Banks has been moved behind Carper as the #2 SLB.
Also, Shaggy will be handling the kick-off duties.
I was not surprised about Tuba being moved to #1...that was due a week or two ago.
BTW, where are you seeing the depth chart on Cyclones.com?

Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
I didnt notice Shaggy got moved...It didnt seem to me that Griebahn was doing all that bad, other then that out of bounds kick after we scored the go ahead touchdown against UNI. Wonder if he is getting punished for that?
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
That was his second kick that landed out of bounds.
Also, Barkema is back at the #1 tight end spot - not that it really matters as both TE's play a lot.
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
I like most of the moves, but why put a guy who is afraid to hit someone at linebacker?
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
Because Carper is slow. He was 2 steps late alot Saturday night.

Carper is still #1, I think what he was syaing was that Banks is afraid to hit anyone, and I too am curious to why he was moved to LB?
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
Could mean a scheme change as well or they may not be happy with how Carper is in coverage.
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
I think it'll be most interesting to see how they play. See if Johnson was someone who was emerging or if Banks was struggling that much, or if they want to play someone other than Carper sometimes. It could signal a move to get more speed on the field, who knows really? I just hope it goes better than the Moser as a linebacker experiment did...
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
It could mean he would be the nickle back. That would make a little more sense to me.
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
True freshman Fred Garrin took a lot of snaps in carpers spot in the second half saturday

Yeah...and now he's not on the 2-deeps. Quite strange.
Maybe Carper was dinged up. Who knows.
Re: Depth Chart changes on defense...
On the Barkema change, it might just be me but it appears Nickel seems to limp around and be in some pain during the games, probably from his knee scope. Hopefully he is staying healthy because he is a great receiving TE.
