This just in...
We are one of 54 Division 1 football teams that are undefeated at home.
That was the one tidbit that I gleaned from the Dan McCarney call in show this evening. Useless positive facts must be getting tougher and tougher to come up with in MacLand.
I mean I can see the glass as half full, but that is pretty thin. But it may be the funniest thing that he has said in 12 years. The sad part is that I think he was serious.
But still, I am off the "fire Dan" bandwagon, lets go get the Huskers, the first of seven in a row.

Re: This just in...
I heard that too and couldn't believe he'd throw something so irrelevant out there. Who comes up with these usless stats for him? It ranks right up there with "We won the second half," after getting blown out by Colorado. I wish he had the guts to say something like... "I respect Mark Farley and UNI has a good football team, but the fact of the matter is they are IAA and we are Big 12. There is no way a IAA team, I don't care who they are, should come into our house and make us sweat to win a football game." Instead we get the "Well, we're still undfeated at home," crap. I have been a supporter of Dan's but it's getting harder and harder to listen to his coachspeak. Not to mention watch his football team perform. Maybe the "real" Cyclones will show up Saturday. Let's all hope.

At first I thought this was going to be another Fire Mac Rant but I have to hand it to you darts, I'm glad your off the bandwagon for now. If by some chance the last 7 games don't go well for us, then I'll be right there with you at the end of the season.

Re: This just in...
We're 1 of 54 teams who are defeated at home and we've played traditional national powers Toledo, UNLV and Northern Iowa. Truly a great and meaningful statistic, especially when there are only 119 division-1 teams.
Dan, quit spewing useless facts. The more you do it, the more it becomes apparent you have very few TRUE accomplishments on which to hang your hat.

I've seen this stated this way twice so I'm wondering if there is an error and Mac thinks we're special (or perhaps herein lies the stupidity of the statistic).
1 of 54 teams who are undefeated at home, that just places us in the top half of the NCAA.?
I don't get it...oh well, 68% of statistics are made up on the spot.

Re: This just in...
68% of the time, every time.

Re: This just in...
I've learned to just tune out Mac during most of his "coach-speak". I would off myself if I had to hear "Well we won the second half against these guys" one more time in the past few years...We would lose the game 42-10 but we "scored more points than them in the 2nd half". Some of his arguments/talking points are pretty ridiculous...

Re: This just in...
We are also 119 out of 119 in pass defense. Let's see a positive spin on that!

Re: This just in...
I got a kick out of the guy, I think his name was Cyclone Bob or Tom or something like that. Sounded like an older guy and Mac says "I've heard about you but never met you." Then the guy goes on and just rambles for like 5 minutes back and forth with Mac and you were just hoping that eventually John would step in with the "well it looks like we lost Cyclone Bob" line after hitting the disconnect. :)

Re: This just in...
I heard mac say this again on the way in to work on Cotlar.
Ugh, it was painful.
-
Re: This just in...
I listened to Cotlar and didn't hear this, but sometimes when Dan's speaking my brain shuts itself down as a self-defense mechanism so I don't stab myself in the eye with something.
Did he really say this on Cotlar?

Re: This just in...
You'd look great in an eye patch though...Yarr!

Re: This just in...
He said it to lead off the post game interview too. I cringed as I heard about a half million hawkeye fans pick that little tidbit up and put it in their ammo bag for later. That is a really, really, really sad stat to try to hang your success on, especially when you consider our opponents.
How about, "3-2 sure shounds a heck of alot better than 2-3, and WAY better than 1-4! Don't get me started on 0-5!"
Maybe he is intentionally trying to publicly insult his players and staff! You know, berate them into performance. God I hope so. Why does he keep repeating it?
