Credits: 109,066 | OT: Anybody in a basketball city league? I just moved to Ankeny a few months ago and I miss playing basketball at Lied. Is anybody going to have a basketball team in a city league? I was wondering if there were any good leagues out there in Des Moines or Ankeny and maybe if anybody needed another player. So, to generate interest in my services, I did what anybody would do. Made a scout profile for myself! Ht: 6-2Wt: 175PPG: 0.5 Position: PG, SG, SF, PF Year: Class of 2000 AAU Team: None High School: Boone HS(Boone, IA) 2007 Scout.com HS Basketball Rankings (full list): Pos:PG, SG, SF, PF Pos Rank:#4,505,231 Pos Rating: 1/2 Scout.com Player Evaluation: STRENGTHS Fun-loving Strong Defender Can hit an open shot most of the time AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT No discernable offensive skill set Conditioning Gets blocked a lot Can maybe get out there and play some solid defense and get some blocks for a team. Pretty much a set shooter if shot is to have any consistency. Ballhandling skills are virtually non-existent. Terrible finisher around the rim. Probably best described as an “energy off the bench” kind of player, basically meaning he sucks. Has a certain “want-to” though. Biography: Played Intramurals in college. Last organized basketball experience was in 4th grade.

My friends and I always laughed about the board in State Gym for people to post if they were looking for players because it seemed like just about everybody listed "three point specialist" on there. Either there were a lot of really good shooters that couldn't find teams or that was code for "I like to stand around the outside and chuck up shots."

Other than I played in an Urbandale league at the high school last year.
I was tearing up the court, with 6 points...8 assists and 3 lucky rebounds in 5 games I think.
Early in game 6 things came to a halt quickly after an MCL & ACL rupture. I was placed on the IR for the year, a 5-11 260 "stud" took my place - not that the shoes were all that big to fill.
Wanted to get back on the court this winter - yet here I sit still rehabbing this foul knee. It's real swell.
Now Bryce, should you choose to embark on your soon-to-be illustrious basketball career...
Invest in some insurance.
Oh, and if you haven't landed one yet - get a good woman to take care of you should the injury bug call your name. They come in real handy at that time.

I've kinda been looking around the WDM area for something for the last year or so. The only thing I know of is through the YMCA.
We need to start a CycloneFanatic league. I need to relive those days at the rec where I would run up and down the court a couple of times and then be completely out of breath. The good thing about that is every once in a while you can cherry-pick which can lead to a nice layup.

Just pick a league and have however many CF teams we can get...join that league. Or pick a couple leagues around the metro...whichever is closer...you join the CF team that's going to your local league. Excellent idea and a ton of fun! For this year...I'd just have to be a reporter. Anyone camera shy?
St8Grad - What level were you playing in? I was on a team in the lower level, whatever it was called. Our team wore red Cyclone t-shirts.

I'm sure Jeremy could setup some sort of registration, etc.
I'll buzz him about this thread and we'll see what he thinks. :)

Let me get the following info for those interested and we can go from there...
Town you live in
Aprx Skill-level
Availability on weekends (?)
Interest level
How many games/practices would you prefer |
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

I would also have no problem taking photos and "reporting" on the games. Hopefully next year I can finally suit up!
