Why does everyone think we need a coach with ISU connections?

I think getting a good coach comes before someone with ISU connections. Pollard seems like he's doing enough to turn the sports programs around at ISU, and upping the resources/facilities in order to make the programs more competitive. With that kind of activity, I think he could be pretty successful in bringing in a coach without any ISU history.

Sometimes, it's better to get a fresh face into the program who can go in with an entirely new approach, rather than having that old ghost of past ISU efforts in the coach's mind.

We just need a good coach regardless of his background. Steve Loney (ISU ties) would work, so would Steve Kragthorpe (no ISU ties).

It just seems like everyone is trying to look for someone from Iowa or that played/coached at ISU at some point.

I think people want a good coach who will stay at ISU. That is the reason for the emphasis on the Iowa ties. As for me, I don't care if the guy hangs around forever. If someone comes in for four years and elevates the program, then he is leaving it a better place. So be it.

Same here. I'm not really into getting emotionally tied to a coach, because it clouds you from seeing how they are actually performing. I think that's why I think, despite the actual facts, Mac has been around so long. People feel like the team has made a huge leap forward, so they give him credit and a pass for bad seasons like this one.

I believe Mac will get the ultimatum at the end of year. He will revamp his asst and move forward.

Throwing names out...asst's...Vinnie Cerratto, ISU ties, thou I do not believe ISU ties are necessay. What ever happen to Bobby Stoops who left here for a higher position at the time at K-State. But, it will take money to get good asst. Previous asst at Nebraska, and whose son grad from Ames High, BUrrows, he is now doing a great job at Northh Dakota State. In fact I believe ISU may be playing NDSU in 2008.

I am just curious how financialy possible it realistically is to fire Dan at the end of the year. How much money would we have to shell out to make this happen? With his contract extension is it really possible for this to happen? Do we have the money? I don't think he will get fired for this very reason. Pollard might want to, but he is a businessman and knows it probably isn't a possibility. That being said most of the coordinators will be gone and if Cotton isn't fired I will blow a gasket.

ISU only owes Mac $225,000 a year thru 2009. His contract was increased to $450,000 a year thru 2011, but the guaranteed part was not changed. VERY smart move by BVDV or Pollard, whoever did that!

So, the buyout is only $675,000. Which is peanuts.

Need a coach who can really recruit. Watched the Ron Prince Show today on Fox Sports to see Cyclone highlights. Guess nobody at Fox wants McC showe on FoxSports.

If you've seen one of Mac's shows you've seen them all. 10 minutes of highlights, 10 minutes of blowing the team that killed you, and 10 minutes talking about how we've been to 5 bowls in 12 years.

If he keeps this up, I really don't think that ticket sales will be as high as they've been. If Mac ISN'T fired, ticket sales will go down next year.

And I really don't think Pollard is going to listen to a reason like ticket sales as a reason to not make a move with Mac. He's more of a winner than that.

Misworded my statement, I think if a move isn't made ticket sells will suffer.

I think this weighs heavy on Pollard, because afterall it (NCAA athletics) is a business, and he is the CEO of it
