And Iowa in '02? They may not have been ranked at the time we played them, but certainly were at the end of the season.

When we went to Norman, we were ranked #9. Apparently the rest of the season went downhill from there. I don't quite recall, something about blocking out bad memories. My therapist and I are still working on that.

I do not know why everyone is surprised that we doi not beat Top 25 teams with all our chances. We used to be too slow, then we were not strong enough, now we are faster but not very big on defense. Yet the same vanilla playcalling has plagued us for many years. When you are not as good as you need to be, you need to use trickery much better than we have ever shown. We need to hire a brain trust to help our current staff out on playcalling. Still upset we did not beat OPklahaoma in Ames in that 28-21 game.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

Because that seems to be the only game that Mac can get the team amped up for every year. This year, and the past two years, we always seem to play Iowa right before we start conference play, and we've started conference play 0-3 for the past 3 years (and of course worse this year).

The way we play against Iowa seems to be an anomoly compared to how we play the rest of the season. That's all I'm saying.

I completely see your point and agree, dccyclone25. I just want to put a disclaimer on the following that it's a hypothetical question - I just think it's an interesting discussion:

What is the best measure of a team? Iowa is really the only team we play every year besides NU who is ranked really consistently. In science experiments you want a constant control - could Iowa and NU kind of be our measuring stick? If not - how do we best measure ourselves? Clearly overall records against ranked teams are one other way to measure, and that has been pretty weak.

Second disclaimer: this is just a rhetorical question. I'm curious to see what people think the most important stat/measure is.

Well, another thing about Iowa is that while a win over them does raise the morale, it doesn't do a whole lot for our season (unless we're making an attempt at an undefeated season). The conference season is truly what is important, and when we're losing to Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and whatever other ranked teams, the win over a ranked Iowa is not that significant.
