The ONLY thing that matters is
dollars. If attendance faulters, if season tickets sales drop, if NCC donations trend down then we cannot regain that excitement and those hesitant fans. Hope can only put so many butts in the seats but eventually there has to be some tangible return. IMHO, we had 1 truly good season with Sage and Reggie. Since then its been smoke and mirrors and the luck of having 1 or 2 exceptional talents. 7-5 after going 6-1? Thats not 7 wins - thats a complete and utter collapse. Losing the 2 most important games in the history of this program against arguably the worst B12 N in history doesn't show me success but mediocrity.
I'm pro-Mac but want a new direction and hope and excitement in the program. Our relationship with Mac has grown stale. Thanks for getting us this far, but we need someone to seal the deal. I hope we lose out because I don't want any doubt as to what is needed although it pains me to see Austin leave on those terms. I have always supported our athletics financially and will continue to do so but I don't support the direction our football program has been on since 2001.

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
To some degree this season has given the people that are always negative and will always be negative a lot of ammo. Its hard to stay positive when you are a on 6 game winning streak. Leaving the optomists not much to say.
I personally am willing to stick with McC as head coach.
2004 bounced back from 2003
The reason I have this opinion is because, while the head coach utimately is responsible for the assitants and team performance, recruiting, in game adjustments ect. I don't think these things are unfixable with him still here. Can he make adjustments with the offense, yes, but the main guy is barney cotten. Can he be better at recruiting, yes, but he isn't the one doing the leg work. So, if we fire Dan McCarney you are loosing a lot of the identity of the cyclone athletic department and the football program. You are loosing a strong leader. (Also, John Skladeny is one of the best defensive coordinators in the big 12 and if you don't think so than we will have to agree to disagree.)
The national media loves dan mccarney and if he can win a little they'll give him even more love...which might help recruiting.
I see recruiting as our biggest problem.
So, in conclusion, if JP thinks it can't get done with Dan then thats the way it needs to be. His understanding of what goes on with program is much better than mine. If JP says, we can fix this in other ways, we need Dan to stay, then so be it.
All of you whiners and moaners should get ready for having Dan McCarney around for a while longer. Its not a forgone conclusion that ANY coaching changes will be made let alone the head coach.
It's time to ask yourself.
Are you a cyclone fan?

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
And why did we bounce back from '03?
A. We couldn't find a QB in '03 and had little talent elsewhere.
B. Schedule got a ton easier in '04.
So, I doubt we'll see us bounce back much in '07, unless something drastic happens.
But expect us to "rebound" in '08!
That's what you will get from D-Mac. Horrible years when the schedule is tough. Average years when the schedule isn't as nasty.

He's done enough for ISU to try again next year, it could turn out great or could turn out terrible, he bounced back from 2003 well enough though. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is a big difference between 2003 and 2006. We had some talent in 2003, and were taken down because of youth and injuries. Most of that talent returned in 2004. This year, we don't have much talent, we don't have as many injuries, and the talent we do have is not returning next year.

Jon Davis, Lung. DeAndre, Knee. Flynn, Ankle. Schmeling, Knee. Stevie, Knee. I think we have had injuries. Parker, Tuba, Banks, Bowen, McKenzie, Singleton. I think we have a fair amount of talent.

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
We don't have much talent this year? And the talent that we do have this year is not returning?
Did I just read that correctly?
IMO, we have plenty of talent on this team. Most of it on offense and some good young talent on defense. This season has been one of the biggest wastes of good talent I've seen in a very long time. 90% of that being directed at the offense.

Go on long walks with Barney? Play golf with John? Or Become a talk show person," We just did not score enough to win the game." He could easily replace Miller and Miller with is quips.

Scales, ankle. Baum who quit taking punt returns for Sumrall? Work flu injury for Blythe hoping to avoid mono. James Smith safety who recently returned after leg problem. Coach Blarney for being Barney. Travis. Milan Moses for Chron's disease. McC for talking too much that he lost his voice. Jill Sweet, the cute cheerleader for wrenching a pinky on one of her maneuvers. Cy the Mascot high ankle sprain for tripping over McC cords on the sideline. parker for being worn down. Ben Bruns for histy fit when talking about the demise of the senior oline.
Has any noticed the senior olinemen has toughed it out all year and not hafd too many problems. Three and out.

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
Hopefully Jill Sweet can make it back this weekend or we will have a big hole in our pyramid. Our two-deeps aren't good for center pyramid.

The girls have been working, real, real hard this season. No question about it. They are the most mentally tough group at ISU and are the most improved in the nation - no question.

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
I have noticed they are having trouble finishing the game. They should probably do some more conditioning and really hit the weight room hard in the offseason. We do have some great recruits coming in though.

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
I was one of those that believed in Mac and his contribution and hard work to the Football program. I now believe its time for a change, get some new blood in here, ( I still like Joe Glenn at Wyoming) and get the offense going, and not choke on the Big 12 North title twice, plus Dan is making the big bucks and Pollard has to realize that he needs fannies in the seats for things to happen and it probably won't happen under Coach Mac......HITMAN

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
I thankDan for what he has done, but a change is needed and keeping him around in 2007 is not going to be pretty. Clone fans need hope, and Dan Mc can't offer that hope. I am clone to the bone, and will be there with or without Mac, but I will enjoy next year much better with a coaching change.

Re: The Give Mac One More Year Group.
My response is that you can always make excuses to be loyal. I have to admit, I still don't think Mac has done as much for ISU as everyone claims. Again, I think CU, KSU, and NU did us a favor by not being as good. He's had 12 years. If we keep giving him one more, that's one more we are not rebuilding the program. That's one more year he has a chance to do just enough to keep a job. I can't imagine after 12 years. After seasons like 2003 and this year that people are so high on this guy. This year and 2003 came when the Big XII North was arguably the worst it's been in it's history. And we are at the bottom of it. I know it may be tough, but, if you want to move forward, sometimes you have to cut loose the ball and chain that's been holding you back.
