Why not 10 wins? I never thought we would win 30 games in a basketball season, and we did that, so why is 10 wins in football unreasonable? Harbaugh would be a nice head coach to seek, but let's not jump the gun just yet, our current season is not done.
Yes, Tressel did go straight to Ohio State from Youngstown State, but he also won 4 NCAA I-AA National Titles and was runner-up twice. I would also say that was one hell of a big step. I just thought the transition from a program like San Diego (I-AA Mid-Major w/o scholarships), even if they are the #1 I-AA Mid-Major program, to a program like Michigan is quite daunting.
Don't get me wrong, I think he is bound for bigger and better things than USD, but I think he will have to make a stop or two before he goes on to Michigan or a program of that caliber. I would think he would be a great hire for ISU among a few others. Harbaugh should definitely be considered by Pollard should he decide to make a change.
Harbaugh would be a great hire, and my top choice if a change is to be made. Name recognition itself can get recruits, and money into the program.
I'm all for Harbaugh if we could get him.
I was wondering though, is there anyone out there that could be a hire and be a worthwhile hire that has any ties to ISU? It would be nice to be able to grab someone that wasn't just looking for a jump to another program, but, someone who actually cared about ISU for ISU's sake. I have no idea if this person exists. The problem with the Stepping stone approach is what happened at Northwestern with Gary Barnett. It would at least be nice if we could get enough going that we felt like promoting from within the staff if the coach did step up to somewhere else. I think that says a lot about the state we are in now. We aren't happy enough of anyone who has come through here with Mac to bump them up. In 12 years did anyone come through here we are impressed with? (Coaching wise that is. not players.)
How can Harbaughs team be so much bigger than Iowa States? If he can get that size in a smaller school, we'd be in great shape.Check out his roster http://usdtoreros.cstv.com/sports/m-...ootbl-mtt.html
Why is everybody so excited about this guy? Last time I checked we have 3 games left this season with current Head Coach Dan McCarney. How about we hold off on the coaching talk at least until the season is over.
I don't know about everybody else, but I just want something to be excited about. I am already getting excited for basketball, and it is only an exhibition game.
I don't think it will take long for Pollard to decide after the season is over. In fact, the sooner he makes a decision one way or the other, the better off we will be in the long run. Plus, it is only a little over 2 weeks away.
It's something to talk about. Obviously, talking about our football team winning is futile at best. Right now it's hard to deal with the state we are in. It's better to talk about who we could get rather than who we are stuck with right now. Even if Mac were to win the last 3 games (yeah, that'll happen, lol) and JP decided that was enough for him to keep his job, then ISU football is not going in the direction I would hope to. It's not that we aren't winning football games, it's how we aren't winning them. This team is not playing well and I have yet to enjoy one game I have watched. I've either been thinking, "I can't believe we are letting this team play with us!" or "Holy crap we suck!" as we are getting blown out by someone.
So far this year, we are competing with no one but much lesser programs. Look at the teams we beat and how they almost beat us. Look at our peers in the Big XII and how we haven't been in one of those games in the 4th quarter. not winning games is one thing. Not competing is completely another and it's what we are doing this year. We are not competing with our peers.
So, what do you want us to talk about? How great of a job Dan is doing? How about we talk about how much success Dan has brought us. That's as tiresome as the fire mac talk. Well, he's not doing a good job. We can continue to state the obvious on that or, like this thread talk about something that gives us a little glimmer of hope. Some people will just have to deal with the fact that some of us want Mac gone. We all have our way of supporting the team. Some of us are looking for a way to put a winner on the field and bring us some real respect. Others are too stuck in the world of "How bad we used to be" to admit we are getting pretty close to how bad we used to be. It's not very often you get to go 0-8 in the Big XII. we are on pace to do that twice in 4 years.
I posted this on another thread, but found it interesting...
Harbaugh is a "sexy" candidate, but everyone does realize he coaches in the Pioneer Football league. As far as mentioning coach Ash from Drake that is absurd. Although the points below may show that Harbaugh might be able to fare well. Heck, maybe even San Diego could beat ISU?
Everyone does realize that San Diego beat Drake 37-0 right? UNI beat Drake 48-7. ISU beat UNI 28-27. See any similarities or trends?
San Diego is 8-0 right now. One interesting stat is they have scored 366 points and given up only 76 points. Averages are 45 points per game for offense and only giving up 9.5 points per game.
Seems resonable to me but if he did turn ISU into a 10 or 11 win program than why leave for Michigan?
