To all the media defenders of Mac....
$1.1 million dollars is not an entitlement. If you're receiving that level of pay, you're going to be expected to produce.
If it was your checkbook, I'm pretty sure you'd have a little higher expectations for your $1.1 million dollars. Oh shucks he's a great guy and he's done okay aren't exactly the expectations I have for that level of pay.

Re: To all the media defenders of Mac....
I agree....if it is medicore football we here at Iowa State should expect, then McCarney needs to take a medicore salary. pollard gave him the raise this year, and expected some sort of result out of it. Instead, he got, in my opinion with the hype before the season and the players we have, one of the worst seasons in the history of Iowa State Football!

Re: To all the media defenders of Mac....
$1.1 million>As I have said before; there are a bunch of coaches that would love to make that kind of money. There are a bunch that would love to make what the ISU asst. coaches make.
Being a head coach at the D-1 level pays pretty well. It is also somewhat like a pro athlete. If someone is good enough to be a pro for a few year, they can make some money, but very few guys are able to make it in the pros for 12 years. Why? Well besides the wear and tear on the players body, there is always a fresh crop of new guys trying to take that high paying gig away.
I really do like Mac, and he has done a lot to put a face on ISU athletics, but winning is still important to sell the program, and I don't see the wins in the near future.

Re: To all the media defenders of Mac....
IT's easy for outsiders to critisize. They have no vested interest and still see ISU as the loveable losers. To be honest, that's kind of how i think they see Mac also. "He's a good guy, wins a few games, I hate to see him go." For the most part, they don't care if ISU wins or not. So, why not keep the coach that gave you mediocre success? It's the fans that have to deal with this on a day in and day out basis. The only time they have to think about it is when they write about what a great guy he is.
If being a great guy was the only criteria you needed to be a good football coach, I'd be making a helluva lot more than I do now doing just that.

Bryceman, I think you are in the wrong thread. The posts look good though.
