We should not be in a BCS conference.

That is what I infer from from all of those who are saying "we can't do better than what we are now."

What? We can't be better than 3-6, 0-6 and staring at a possible 3-9,0-8 record? If these are the expectations, we clearly need to get out of a BCS conference, or perhaps the football program itself.

All of these national "experts" and many fellow Clone fans are IGNORING what is happening this season. I'd bet the house if we were 6-3, or 5-4 right now Mac would not be on the hotseat. Also, if there was some glimmer of hope that next year could be better. Where's the recruits?????

I would be content with "we can't do better than what we are now" statement if we were 7-5 or 8-4 at the end of the season.

We need the football revenue to keep other athletics going - butts in the seats to help pay for track and field, etc. To get revenue of quantity from TV and bowls, you must be ina BCS confernce. Therefore, JP needs to fiund a way to upgrade the win count in next five years. They are humping in Lincoln and they look like the two scenarios will leave them with six losses this year.

I know, I am just calling the people out with such low expectations that I hear on the national media and some of the callers that claim to be Cyclone fans. These people either do not think we can compete, or don't want us to.

I don't ever want us to (nor do I think it will happen) that we would leave the Big 12 for any other conference.

Re: We should not be in a BCS conference.

I have to agree with you herbicide. If we never expect to beat Texas, OU, Nebraska, TTech and anyone else who might become a big boy, then what the hell are we doing here. I don't understand the people that think we will never be able to be better than what Mac has brought us. I truly think that Cyclone fans are so jaded that until we reach another plateu, no one will believe we can get there. So, when Mac almost got us to the Big XII Championship, everyone said, "Oh, maybe it is possible." Only problem now is all of these people think if Mac can't do it, no one can. We have had other coaches here people. Some bad, and some really good and actually much better than Mac. You go back to the mid to late 70s, there was some really good football being played on that field. In a time when 8-3 didn't even get you to a bowl game. Kind of shows you what some of our past few bowl births really mean.

Prediction......
3-4 years from now. Major College hoops program established again.
That will make a little easier to swallow the football problems.

not in a BCS conference? You know we have other sports to besides football and basketbal which do very well (WRESTLING, GYMNASTICS). so yea u cant be complaining about how we shouldnt be in the Big XII cuz we cant compete with Texas and Oklahoma in FB cuz they can't compete with us in the sports that we do excel in. Thats like saying Baylor shouldn't be in the Big XII cuz they've always sucked at FB, but then again they are the reigning champs in Girls bball. Think about what you say before ******** about one really bad year of FB. I'm tired of all this ******** n moaning.

Were we ever a major college hoops program? We had some good years, but, I would say we were pretty far from being a well established program.

That being said, I don't think you'll ever see a total switch. Basketball doesn't lend itself to the gameday experience that football does. If will definitely take the pressure off, but, it's never going to erase the fact that we would like to have a winner at football.

Re: We should not be in a BCS conference.

No it doesn't, but if we become a top 20 program every year In BBALL, at least we will have an Identity for something.
That being said...Football does drive the budget and when we suck we don't make money. Just look at the last part of this season. No TV exposure = no money, Half filled stadiums for 3-4 games = A lot less money.
I think we need to get to the point where we are considered one of the top 6 in the conference. How that happens, I don't know.....

Am I missing something? 3-4 games worth of a "half-filled" stadium? I think attendance has been great this year (compared to ISU's recent history).

We were on the cusp of being one when the UNI Athletic Director ne basketball referee, Hartzell, screwed us with the charge / block call that fouled out Paul Shirley and gave the Elite 8 game to Michigan State!

I loved it when ISU stole McDermott from UNI and wouldn't mind if we doubled up with Mark Farley.

If EIU fans still hate Jim Bain, why don't ISU fans hate Hartzell?

Over the past 20 years we've gone to the NCAA tourney more often than not. How can you say ISU is not "well established"?
