"But if McCarney is dumped, and Alvarez becomes the AD/coach at Miami, a source told me not to be shocked to see big Barry bring McCarney along as defensive coordinator with the notion that McCarney would ascend to the head coaching slot when Alvarez slides up to the AD chair."
I laughed so hard i nearly wet my pants when i read that....Mac as HC of the canes?!?! Althought, I'd gladly trade for Larry Coker...
o i didnt kno it was posted. sorry bout that. as for the thought of Mac taking the ranks at the U...made laugh as well
One good point that the article brought up is that it might greatly benefit ISU to hire a minority coach. I completely agree. The midwest is Big 10/Big 12 country but I can't think of very many coaches of color that come to mind. I'm not saying that the color of a skin should matter to a recruit but let's be realistic here. Also, what about Ron English, the brilliant, African American offensive coordinator at Michigan. He'd rather stay as a coordinator at Michigan then take a Big 12 head coaching job? Are there any other top minority candidates that come to mind?
[quote=JCloned;36298]Dunbar may be interesting. Hayes too inexperienced, same forr Cubit, Borges career coordinator (20 yrs why no HC shot by now) Rhoads also could be intersting. Can't really see Novell or Wilson.
I am with you I like the Dunbar angle. Did good with Northwestern with lesser talent than rest of Big 10 schools. Opened up the offense, fun to watch!
He would bring a wide open offense, has NFL experience, is a midwestern guy and he recruits Texas for the Huskers. I know some fans don't want another coach with Husker ties, but bringing in Norvell might result in his hiring a few other Husker assistants. That could weaken the Nebraska program.
I think in the end that the next Cyclone coach will have strong midwestern ties, will emphasize fundamentals, will be a very personable guy and will have to focus on bringing in student athletes. I see a person with many of the same traits as G-Mac.
