Countdown to UC-Riverside...and the rest of the season
Looking at our non-conference schedule, how do you think we'll finish record-wise?
UC-Riverside
Louisiana Monroe
Eastern Illinois
Norfolk State
At Minnesota
Lake Superior State
At UNI
Drake
At Iowa
Savannah State
Bradley (Wells Fargo Arena)
at Ohio State
SE Missouri State
North Dakota State
Realistically, I think we may lose 2-3 of our road games and probably 1 game at home where we shouldn't.
11-3 or 10-4 wouldn't be too bad to start the season with this young team.
Hopefully we aren't a bubble team because we will get KILLED for our NC schedule.

Hopefully we aren't a bubble team because we will get KILLED for our NC schedule. Compared to past years and the schedules a lot of teams play out of conference, I would say it's reasonably strong. Some cream puffs, but there are several high quality opponents on that list. Many of them played last post-season while we stayed home.
Also, as inexperienced as our team is, I wouldn't want to play a who's who of college basketball before the rigors of Big Twelve play.
Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man. -

My prediction:
9-5, 1-4 away from Hilton plus 1 surprise at home (the bad kind).
The team will improve as the season progresses and cause a few surprises of their own in conference play.

Reason: Removed exhibition games from record

away: 1-3 (all three to big11ten schools)
home: 7-3 (UC-Riverside, wells fargo game and E. Illinois)
8-6
cyclonekj: I only count 14 games.... why 11-5? Exhibition?

9-5... We'll miss Jiri for the first six games. We'll play the tougher teams tough but come up short, beat most of the creampuffs, and get surprised once at home in the early going.

Re: Countdown to UC-Riverside...and the rest of the season
I think we need to shoot for 11 wins - Non conference. It would be nice to sneek up on OSU to get a quality win.
I think we could win games we shouldn't and lose games we shouldn't.
I have us 12-3. More realistic would be 9 or 10 wins.
Here my opinion..
UC-Riverside---------------W
Louisiana Monroe-----------W
Eastern Illinois-------------W
Norfolk State--------------W
At Minnesota--------------L 50% chance of winning (1st road game)
Lake Superior State--------W
At UNI---------------------W -60% chance of winning
Drake----------------------W - 70% chance of winning
At Iowa--------------------L -45% of winning
Savannah State------------W
Bradley (Wells Fargo Arena)--W
at Ohio State---------------L 35% of winning
SE Missouri State-----------W
North Dakota State---------W

Re: Countdown to UC-Riverside...and the rest of the season
C'mon all of you are giving Minnesota way too much credit. I'm a Cyclone fan first and foremost, but I have seen how poor the Gophers are first-hand for many years growing up. Mark my words - we will win at The Barn, and I will be there!

With Jiri I would say yes, but without him we really don't have an inside scoring presence.

We don't have inside scoring WITH Jiri. perhaps you haven't seen his game. he loves the 3 ball still WAY too much. Until Marsden, Grey or the johnson's prove they can score inside we will never have an inside game all year.

Here's what I think. 8-6.

I think we'll hit a bad stretch at the end of the schedule. From Iowa on down to Ohio State. I think we can compete in every game but I'm just trying to be realistic. I can see us going 8-6 or even 12-2 (Long Shot). If we do go 12-2 I won't be thinking we are great until we see us play some games in the Big 12.

Re: Countdown to UC-Riverside...and the rest of the season
I think we beat Bradly at Wells Fargo. Bradley lost all of there offense... I just think that we will win at Wells Fargo! We had a great crowd last year, and i think we will again this year!

Re: Countdown to UC-Riverside...and the rest of the season
I don't understand why everyone is putting Drake in the win column. They are getting better every year under Tom Davis, and they would love to beat the Cyclones. This was at one time the greatest rivalry on the ISU schedule.

Re: Countdown to UC-Riverside...and the rest of the season
I think a lot is going to depend on how long it takes the players to gel as a team. Watching the webcasts, I saw the potential for a good team, but you could tell they haven't played together enough yet.

We don't have inside scoring WITH Jiri. perhaps you haven't seen his game.
He does, but he has changed his game nicely from what I've seen in the first few exhibitions.
