Ferentz: McCarney's 'done a great job at Iowa State'

Iowa City, Ia. – Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz said today he’s exchanged messages of support with embattled Iowa State coach Dan McCarney.
Speculation concerning McCarney’s future with the Cyclones continues as Iowa State remains at the bottom of the Big 12’s North Division standings.
Ferentz and McCarney worked together as assistant coaches at Iowa during the 1980s under former Hawkeye coach Hayden Fry.
“We’ve exchanged messages,” Ferentz said after his weekly news conference. “As you might well imagine, I’m extremely supportive of Dan. I’d like to think I’m a friend.”
Together, Ferentz and McCarney have helped make the annual Iowa-Iowa State football games one of the most intense rivalries in the Midwest.
McCarney’s Cyclones have a 5-3 edge over Ferentz’s Hawkeyes.
“What I told him, he didn’t need to hear from me,” Ferentz said. “He’s done a pretty good job from my vantage point, but that’s just one person’s opinion. I have a tremendous respect for him. Personal level is one thing, but professionally, I think he’s done a great job at Iowa State.”

This reads like a goodbye from our fellow rival.
If all of the talk about Mac being gone is true, it is going to be one hell of an emotional game in 2 weeks.

He should worry about coaching his own team ... losing to Northwestern is more embarrasing then losing to KU!

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

And of course, you've got to think Ferenz would love to see Mac go so he would have a better chance of beating ISU...

Anyone have any reliable info (NOT rumors) on whether Mac would take the job as D-Cord at Iowa. Thanks in advance,
Your friend,
