Since it is election time.....let the voting begin.
Both Loney and Rhodes have coached at ISU in the past and Rhodes hometown is Ankeny. I'm sure both of them would be interested. Norvell also coached at ISU. Dunbar coached at UNI. Hayes played for Iowa. This is a tough question, a lot of good coaches. I vote no on Hayes (based simply on the fact that he played at Iowa). And no on Norvell....we all know how it worked out last time we got an Off. coord. from Nebraska:sad9cd:.
I voted for Loney because I see him as the one that stands out on the list as far as getting more from less. I'm not sure how those other candidates are as far as being successful with mid-tier players, but know for a fact that Loney works well with them. Iowa State had a really nice offensive game while SL was in Ames.
Iowa State may get a few steals in recruiting, but the majority of the time they won't be blue-chipper, bona fide stars. It will be key to develop the o-line to lead to a running game, a consistent passing game, and to score points to get the D jacked up and motivated. Oh, and to excite fans. I believe Loney will do this and get this thing turned around in a few years.
You need to add Pellini.
Yeah, where is Bo Pellini....he has my vote!
add pelini...please
My choices are:
Norm Chow
Steve Loney
Mark Price
Dennis Ericson
I hope that we as Cyclone fans aren't hoping for Mike Dunbar to be the next Head Coach. He was terrible at UNI and I am not sold on him at this level. He seems to be a fine coordinator but that may be his limit. Look at UNI and see when they didn't make the play-offs and then look to see that Dunbar was the head coach. I knew players at that time at UNI who didn't like his philosophy. We have a chance to start fresh and I think that there are better options available.
Also John L. Smith is available. He did not get it done at Michigan State but he did make Louisville what it is today. Just because a coach get's fired at one school don't make him a bad coach.
Also Skippy is out there. Neuheisal.
One more guy is Dirk Koetter (SP?) He can't get it done at ASU but who can. I lived down there and they can't stand there own football team. If he got a team with some passionate fans like us. He might bring his style into the big 12 and make it work.
I would like Paul Rhodes or Mike Dunbar also though.
How old is Loney? I thought i heard he is a lot older than what we might want. All of these guys are fairly good choices. Their personalities set them all apart.
Add Jim Fassel please.:wink0st:
Steve Kragthorpe!!!
Bo Pelini would make us into a miracle team. He is like the second coming of Stoops. Mark Farley needs a look.
WHAT DO WE WANT in STAFF PRIORITY?
1. Biggest problem is recruiting better oline and dline performers. Need to keep Florida and Texas and Oklahoma pipeline open. Keep Phillip Bates for sure.
2. Need to keep Iowa high schools involved in recruiting.
3. Need a coach willing to take chances and make adjustmernts on the run.
4. Prefer some connection to the pros on staff.
5. Need ethical conduct.
