Go Figure
Man two days ago 90% of the posts on this site we’re slamming McCarney and calling for his head. Now JP is giving it to you on a platter and all of a sudden we have a love fest for Coach Mac? What a bunch of hypocrites… -
Re: Go Figure
When you hear about a guy getting let go, it puts his entire career in perspective, it's tough to get your head out of this season right now. I'm sad he's being let go, I honestly don't know if it's a good idea or not, but I don't think people being appreciative of the work he put in at this university and still wanting a change are mutually exclusive.
He's being let go. It's one thing to want a change, it's another to kick a guy while he's down, which would be exactly what people would be doing if they still continued to rip him. Let him enjoy his last two weeks as head coach at ISU. He's coached here a long time and deserves a great sendoff.

Re: Go Figure
I definitely agree with Bobber on this one. As somebody said earlier in the week, Be careful for what you wish for as you just might get it. -
Re: Go Figure
Situations like these are never easy. It needed to be done and was long over due. I am excited for Iowa State University and what the future holds for the football program.

He has done a lot to represent the university in a good manner and promote the athletic dept in general, but in his 12 year as HC there is no excuse for what is happening on the field on game day. This team is not just average, it is horrible, and getting worse as the season goes on. The team has had a lot of injuries, but the fact remains that this team was not very good when healthy. I am sure that Mac is as angry and frustrated as any 100 fans are, but that isn't winning games, and JP's plans call for a winning FB program.

Re: Go Figure
The fact that Mac will be missed does not mean letting him go is wrong. I think Mac did a ton for ISU football and I will miss having his infectious enthusiasm around. However, I think his time has come.
We should celebrate the highs, forget the lows, thank him and look towards the future.
I liken this to when JO left (was shoved out the door). I was very sad for the end of the era, but excited for the future. ISU BBall has reached higher highs since the JO era, but with those higher highs came lower lows. I think that will be the Fball program as well. Hopefully not the same types of lows though.
It is somewhat inevitable when a school without tradition to fall back on reaches for the next great level that there will be bumps. I think JP's leadership will get us through though.

Re: Go Figure
You know it is possible for fans to want a change to happen, but still feel sorry for Mac.

Re: Go Figure
There are a lot of nice guys out there. Now it's time to find a coach.

Re: Go Figure
I'm not sad. I can't wait to see the offical note on Cyclones.com. McCarney is great guy I'm sure but not a great coach.
I want to see ISU with a great coach.
If all this is true then Pollard did the right thing. Gives the fans hope for better things to come. Now more fans will show up for the Mizzo game and there won't be dumba** fans wearing bags on their heads and yelling at the coaches.
Smart move by Pollard.
