In state FB recruiting
While the state is not deep, it is rare to find players generating the national buzz that several prospects have created so soon. Does anybody know where we actually stand in the eyes of Hundtermark, Bernstein, Sash and the LB from Humboldt and the receiver from Bett?
The upper tier of this instate class is special, I know we will out work other schools for thewe kids. I just want it to pay off. I want to get them all in Cardinal and Gold and I believe that we would potentially see one of the most memorable classes in ISU history.

the only kids i know are the humboldt boys and they are still sifting through everything. along with the offer from ISU, they recieved offers from Iowa, Minn, Indiana, Purdue that i know of and probably more to come.

Re: In state FB recruiting
The Daily Iowan (U of I paper)had a story today about Bettendorf's Sandeman and Hubolt's Hundertmark signing with Iowa over the weekend. Rival's Tom Kakert had them ranked as the 2nd and 4th best prospects in the state.
The good news is, according to the artical, it looks like we are still in the running for getting Tyler Nielsen, also out of Humbolt.
Only the brave (and perhaps stupid) would have the guts to stand in the U of Iowa student section the week before the ISU game and announce that you bleed cardinal and gold. I may have gone to school at U of I for seven years, but my loyalties never wavered. -

I'm from Humboldt originally, and it appears from what I can tell, Nielson is headed to Iowa, although he was very impressed with ISU.

Re: In state FB recruiting
Berstine will not end up at ISU. It is going to be to the eastern part of the state. I have also heard rumblings about his moms health so he does want to stay close but he doesn't like ISU, we are not even in the picture anymore, per a reliable source. Ohio State USC, and Norte Dame are now calling so we will see where he lands.

I think we get blanked in the top 5 and only get one/two out of the top 10...but we also have alot of carry over schollies from last recruting class to remember as well, so if we get blanked in the state, we have 5-7 schollies to use from last year.

Re: In state FB recruiting
ISU has been competitive in recruiting in state over the last 5 or 6 years. Some years due to proximity of schools, or family ties or allegiances, academic interests, the recruiting swings one way or the other. There are a lot of mitigating factors. I am glad for Bythe, Zehr, Moses(offered late), Brant, Arnaud, and Scales who were all offered by EIU but chose ISU. A few others chose ISU early who probably would have been offered later by EIU. The same is true in reverse with Iowa. This year may swing toward EIU but maybe not. The best players in this state may be players like Carstens and Danielson who walked on at ISU and earned a scholarship. The best way to look at things is that time will tell. Don't get too excited over recruiting successes or too discouraged over recruiting set-backs. Overall program success for both schools will hinge on player development and out of state recruits due to lack of numbers in Iowa.

Re: In state FB recruiting
Always better to get a head start on player development by signing better players. Our coaches have shown the ability to develop talent, imagine if they ever brought in talent that was ahead from the beginning.

Re: In state FB recruiting
Glad to read on the BB thread that numerous BB players graduated. Like one indiviidual stated few will ever go pro so the education is important. I was somewhat disheartened at the recruiting new over the weekend even though I knew that is how it would go. To console myself I happened to remember the Academic All-State Awards given by the DM Reg. Off the top 50 there, ISU was by far the huge winner. Maybe we don't get all the top notch football players but I was sure proud of ISU's appeal to the academic winners of the state. Check it out....it should make you proud.

Re: In state FB recruiting
Maybe Iowa will hire an ultra liberal female for AD and Ferentz will bolt for NFL glory. Maybe these guys will reconsider.
Hey, a guy can dream????

Re: In state FB recruiting
Over the last several years it has seemed like one year they have a clear upper hand in state, the next year we do. Last year was our year, so far this year is theirs. Our disadvantage with that scenario is we don't have the recognition yet to recruit as successfully as we would like outside of Iowa. We have made great strides, but we have some work to do

Re: In state FB recruiting
typically when ISU gets most of the in-state talent its during down years for talent. We might get numbers but usually Iowa gets the best players in better years.
