Re: Harbaugh interested?
I'm not sure Ames would be the place for him, but who knows. The only thing I've heard for sure is that he is interested in moving up. Now is that step here? Maybe. But, I would doubt it.

Re: Harbaugh interested?
I am not sure I am sold on Harbaugh anyway. This would really be his first coaching job. Dealing with bigger budget, scholarships, high caliber competition and bigger recruitment prospects. Hard to tell though.

Re: Harbaugh interested?
I'm not sold on Harbaugh being a good fit here. I'd prefer someone with a little more proven track record and coaching expirience than him.

Re: Harbaugh interested?
I guess the thing I see in him is he's really got to know the X's & O's if he can get his teams to average 8.2 yards per play. Sure the talent level is less, but the I would think the X's & O's would be good at any level. It will be interesting to see who JP actually lands.

Re: Harbaugh interested?
I'm not a big fan of Harbaugh coming here; maybe if I was a fan at a MAC school, not the Big 12 though for most of the reasons listed above.

Re: Harbaugh interested?
I'm interested to see more info on Harbaugh's teams. He would bring a recognized name, and some extra attention along with it. Certainly more buzz would follow that hire than some of the others mentioned. -
Re: Harbaugh interested?
Heres what i think...
If JP is considering the man, then he must be adequate enough to get the job done.
It was a very good point on exactly how much bigger is our budget really! That might not be all that different.
Besides if he can lead a bunch of lesser athletic players too excellence with their division, there is a good chance he can do the same here.
I do agree that this would be a big jump as to position status and the usual progression through college ranks, but lets not rule out a possible canidate just because of that.
I would take a highschool coach as long as i had enough confidence that the man could get the job done.
I feel that most of us are looking at the coach change to be more in the saf heaven instead of taking a risk that might bring better outcomes.
It plays out just like stocks.

You guys do know SD is 1AA nonscholarship program same as Drake. If their budget is even close to ISU's why wouldn't they become a scholarship program at D2 or 1AA like UNI. I almost wonder if that is SD goal. Than again maybe the only reason SD gets any press at all is because Harbaugh played in the NFL. Ash down at Drake has won that conference and usually does well but you never hear anyone talking about bigger schools wanting him. I know ISU would not even consider Ash, nor should they, but why are so many so high on Harbaugh? We are not as close to the sitation here in Iowa. I think we can do better.

Re: Harbaugh interested?
I don't think ISU has to take a chance on another unproven coach, like Mac was. Say what you want, but success at a D-1AA non-scholarship school is not the kind of success that should meet our criteria. With that kind of attitude, all the people saying "Mac is the best coach ISU will ever have" are right.

Hmmm....using that logic to hire a coach seems to have worked out well for a certain Big 10 basketball school just to the east.
Seriously though, I think we can do better than a division IAA nonscholarship coach.

Might wanna take a closer look at Harbaugh. http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/usd/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/Playoff.pdf -
Re: Harbaugh interested?
Actually San Diego is division II. 1-AA is a jump, but as you mention, look at Tressel. From II to IA with 3 years experience? Too iffy for my taste.
