Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
It sounds like they blew a lead over the low team in the tourney. I can imagine that they are pretty tired playing 3 teams in 3 days. I wont judge em on this game =) A win is a win.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
EIU didn't look like a bad team, had some solid players.... Good win for ISU, its nice to see the team learning to finish games and just in general...win

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
I was out of pocket and couldn't be there or listen. We must not have been as sharp as last night, but I expect this team to have its ups and downs.
At least we're 3-0 with a full week of practice before the next game.
I REALLY like McDermott.

I agree and I think McDermott is great. he really gets on these guys to improve.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
You could easily tell those legs were dragging down the floor, they all looked tired and ready for a break. I would not judge too much on this game, but man can the JOHNSON"S PLAY BALL. Cory and Wesley are going to be something in the near future.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
This might be too generous....But Wesley Johnson reminds me of Tyrus Thomas. Is is long and athletic and just oozes raw talent.

Thomas was extremely athletic!! So is Johnson though, it will be fun to watch Wesley develop for sure!

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
I agree, Wesley Johnson is something else.
Normally, the Toledo game would have taught me to raise concern over a tight score against "inferior" competition, but these guys are still young. Again and again, we made great defensive plays, but are still incapable on capitalizing on them.
What a play at the end though by Clark! Great defense causes those kinds of shots to fall apart, and that's exactly what happened. Last year's team would've lost that game, you can take that to the bank.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
It does not concern me since watching the game this EIU team really played well and were hitting a lot of nice shots. There was nothing bad about keeping close with this team. It just gave us a little experience with winning a close one. They said that we beat EIU last time we played them in OT, which was the game after Lafester Rhodes lit up Iowa for 54 points. I also did not realize that Wesley Johnson had originally verbally committed to ULM they were saying on TV. It is much better seeing him on our side of the ball then playing against us in the Cyclone Challenge.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
One of those games where every loose ball ended up in the hands of EIU and then they just put it in the hole. Frustrating. Speaking of which, we're going to have some rough stretches, I think, as the competition improves. I'm liking Johnson and Johnson as true freshmen...add a few gems in the class next year, and we ought to be back in the upper third of the conference again within a couple of seasons.
If we can finish over .500, I think it'll be a success this year.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
Hope we break seventy this year a couple of times. Need 13 more wins to make NIT, 16 more for NCAA.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
This was the first game I was able to view, on TV only. EIU came out strong in the second half after ISU had taken control of the game late in the first half. EIU got much better position on rebounds, and suddenly started shooting about 80%. Every tipped ball or near steal by ISU went to EIU for about 10 minutes midway through the second half. Over all it was a good experience for the young Cyclones, but they still have a long way to go. Taylor plays a lot like Stinson in that he tries to go where there is no opening, tries to dribble thru double teams, and shoots a lot. He is a better shot than Stinson, but not as strong. I was most impressed with the overall quickness and athleticism of the team and the commitment to defense. I think GMac needs to spend most of the practice time this week on offense.

Re: ISU Squeaks a 56-54 Win
Actually, we'll need at least 15 wins for the NIT, it's a new rule that you have to be at least .500 to be invited.

I like how much heart these guys are playing with. I missed seeing that after LE left.
