A 99-36 loss to Oklahoma, wow, I hope we can beat the crap out of a team before going to Minnesota. I know we won't score anywhere close to 99, but maybe hold them to around 36 would be nice Sunday.

Wow! Now that's a blowout. I hope we don't even come close this against these guys. I'm still really curious how we're gonna stack up against some real competition, so the Minnesota game should be quite interesting. Thanks for the article A-town.

it will definately be a good measuring stick to see where we currently stand compared to Oklahoma and then we can see how much we improve by the time we actually play OK

Comparitive scores don't mean much. They would if every team played consistently from game to game, but for most teams this isn't true. Having said that, I would be a bit concerned if we don't win the game by at least 10 (given our low scoring games thus far). However, if we did just squeak out a win, it would confirm that this team is young, learning a new system, and inconsistent.

The best opponent in the weekend tournament was LA Monroe, and that's the team we handled the easiest. The team that gave us the most trouble, EIU, was the team that didn't win a game. Comparing scores will tell you nothing. Vermont beat Boston College, Butler beat Notre Dame.

I would agree with you guys to some extent... and I didn't mean it to be the hard set measure of our improvement. But it's the best you have being able to play the same team as another guy in our conference. If there's a better measuring tool you can think of let me know.

Like I said, I somewhat agree, but if comparing scores tells you nothing, then what's the point in basketball? The score is what determine's the winner, and no, it doesn't mean that would be the score everytime those two teams play, but there is a correlation.

And there's no way you could rank teams without looking at score differences. If two highly ranked teams played eachother, The loser won't drop in ranking near as much if it's a close game, but if they get blown out, I'm sure they'll drop in ranking much more... and they'll drop in ranking a lot if they lose to a team that has been getting blown out by opponents as well.

Sorry for just rambling on, but if we have a close game with Norfolk and you feel we're prolly not ready for Oklahoma yet, or we blow out Norfolk and you feel that our team could compete with Oklahoma... then you're comparing the score just as much as I am.

Some teams are ahead of other teams this early in the season. Just win, baby. Worry about scores when you are on the short end of them.

Good point. Early on, especially in non-conference play I think just earning the W's is the biggest concern. Being that we have such a young team and a new system, it is obviously going to take some time to perfect it. Once we get into the heart of Big XII play, then perhaps glancing at the scores can provide a reasonable comparison of the competition. Until then, I will be satisfied with winning these ball games!
