Harris named interim head of ISU Football
The DMReg has a probably pointless but interesting nonetheless story this morning on how Pollard has appointed senior associate AD David Harris to take over the football program until a new staff is hired. It's a fairly good read, with some really great quotes from Mac & Co. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/app...0602/611140383
This is an interesting move, now that I think about it. It will surely keep everyone guessing, especially ISU's coach-seeking competitors. If he's appointing an interim director, it kinda sounds like we might not have a coach for a while- especially if you don't know how JP works. But on the other hand, maybe this move is intended primarily to make people think that, and then boom- he announces a new coach out of left field when everyone thought we were going to have to wait a month.
This is better than any TV show! So much suspense!

True and Valiant
I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

In the grand scheme of things, I don't think this really means anything.

David Harris Interim Head of FB Program??
Did anybody anticipate this? What are your thoughts? http://www.desmoinesregister.com/app...0602/611140383 -
Re: David Harris Interim Head of FB Program??
He is just there to watch over the program. With this news I would say Jamie is not 100% on who he is going to hire right now. I know Jeremy said Harbaugh is our guy and I know others say Harbaugh but I am not sold on Jamie making a decision yet. I think there is a numbers game going on right now with a few different possibilities and also some guys like John L. Smith trying to get there names in the hat. I do know more than some people about this deal. I really think Harbaugh could be the guy and at the same time I think Jeter from Milwaukee Wisconsin might be our next basketball coach if ya know what I mean.

But it IS very interesting.
Two things I picked up on. - Harris was an asst athletic director
- He trusts people he brought in
- Especially staff from Wisc.
- Jamie isn't racist... GASP!
- comments made from uninformed about WM and BD.

I hope it doesn't mean we're in some kind of bidding war for Harbaugh or whoever else.

Re: Harris named interim head of ISU Football
If Harbaugh is our guy it could be a while till he actually takes the reins. He does have to finish his season. However he could sign a contract with us making him HC at ISU immediately after San Diego's season ends (which I think would be the case).
Mac will be stepping down after Mizzou game and you must have someone in charge of football operations at that time, especially if your new HC can't report for the job till after his season ends.
Which leads us back to Tim Brewster. Brewster would be available IMMEDIATELY upon signing his contract, which would mean Harris wouldn't really be necessary except for transition purposes. I think this gives even greater credibility ot Jeremy's breaking news that Harbaugh is indeed the next ISU Head Coach barring unforeseen developments.

Stormin, I think you may have gotten it right. You presented a very plausible theory.

Re: David Harris Interim Head of FB Program??
If Harbaugh can't report to ISU till after San Diego season ends you would have to have someone in charge of football operations till then. I don't really see this as having ANY impact on how things are going with Harbaugh. Also, You definitely need to have contingency plans just in case things don't go as planned. That is just prudent thinking. This gives me even greater confidence in Pollard.
Hiring of a new Football HC is Pollard's biggest move yet. As he has stated, if things don't work out he could be the next one on the hot seat. Gotta like a guy who is willing to put his *ss on the line.

Re: Harris named interim head of ISU Football
I would think having a Harbaugh staff built up already would make recruiting go smoother before February. Either way, Harbaugh and Brewster are winning lottery tickets IMO. Recruiting is the most crucial element. Better to start with three stars than two stars ssince the South recruiting is usually in top 30. Our competition has recruiting classes rated high, so we first need to recruit more talent to Ames. Eventually you stockpile talent so we have fewer gaps. It is no surprise that we run out of gas in the second half/fourth quarter now.

I believe that was just a formality

Re: Harris named interim head of ISU Football
I think it's pretty standard business practice to have an interim person overseeing the day to day stuff. I'm sure there is alot of end of the season tasks to be done.
It's also a good leverage when negotiating to be able to say that we don't have to have someone to take over the day after Mac is done and we can take our time. (I just hope he doesn't take too much time but takes the time to make a good decision.)

Re: Harris named interim head of ISU Football
sounds like damage control for the recruiting season and to organize the program for the new coach.
fill out paperwork signed in triplicate sent in,sent back, queried, lost, found subjected to public inquiry, lost again then finally burried in soft peat for three months then recycled as fire lighters.
