McCarney to Iowa?
The rumors of Dan McCarney going to Iowa to be a defensive coordinator are strange to me. The idea of this guy that has been the heart and soul of the Cyclones going to the hated rivals is tough to think that would happen. OK, he has Iowa roots and has coached there, but as an ISU fan I would be upset if he went there.

Re: McCarney to Iowa
I don't think it would make any of us very happy.

Re: McCarney to Iowa
I don't see him going anywhere unless it is to be the head coach. He's been the Boss too long to be someone else's peon.

Re: McCarney to Iowa
Well I don't think Dan is too happy right now....
I doubt he will, but who knows. I think the Iowa nation would welcome him back with open arms if he did want to.

Re: McCarney to Iowa
If Mc Carney goes to Iowa .....so be it.....
Don't lose sight that Iowa State divorced McCarney ....and the guy has been all class.....and hopefully us cyclone fans can follow suit

Re: McCarney to Iowa
I know Iowa fans want him, but I can't see it happening, but I'm not sure where he's going to get a head coaching job at a major college school

Re: McCarney to Iowa
I hope he goes to Iowa. I would like to see him on the sideline right away. By the way, since Tom Osborne lost for Congressional run, he will teach leadership and ethics classes at UNL. They need it apparently.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: McCarney to Iowa
He will go to Iowa in a heartbeat, if that is his only option. BTW I thought Dan was going to get the Stanford job, and make Bill Walsh look like an amatuer

Re: McCarney to Iowa
If DMac goes to Iowa...so be it...its the nature of the business. However, if he does become a coordinator, I don't think he will be one for a long time. I see him doing it as a fill in until he gets a head coaching job.
Any route he goes...he has my support.

Re: McCarney to Iowa
who wouldn't want him as a def. coordinator? He's good at it - and frankly - he's not bad at the head coach spot. Sure Iowa would love to get him, but I bet other places would as well.

Re: McCarney to Iowa
Mac has too much pride to go backwards as a coodinator. He will want to find a job where he can finish out his career. The trick is, he will target a school that has a string of losing seasons, an AD that is not looking to go anywhere, and a fan base that will accept losing. For at least 12 years.
Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE. -

Good one, you hit it. Let the D-Mac pity pat party continue thru today. Then, maybe we can get on with the task at hand. Bring on a new Head Coach that can adjust at half time.

Here's one prediction that can't miss. Dan McCarney will find another job somewhere, and Darts will start to hate that team. -
Re: McCarney to Iowa
Mac's ties to Iowa City are a lot tighter than many think. Even of recent years. He owns property there. It is his hometown and he has been seen there countless times in the offseason over the last 15 (going back to wisky days) years. There is no evil subplot to Mac being secretly in Iowa City collaborating with Iowa. He was a cylone first and formost. He is loyal to ISU but unilike many of us he doesn't see being loyal to ISU and UofI as problematic. His daughter is/was a student at UI and it has even been highlighted in newpaper articles about her been the daughter of cross state rivals coach. The UofI still consideres Dan family. It is different than when gable came fromISU to Iowa. Mac is born and bred in Iowa City his parents hail from there and I for one am convinced that he gets the same sentimental feeling going home that I do when I return to my hometown. The difference Mac is a hometown hero in Iowa City. He marred his image by becoming ISUs coach in many Hork fans but most would never blame him for taking a job at a big time shcool in a bigtime conf. They recognize a winner when they see one similarly to ISU when they hired him. he would be welcomed with open arms. Norm Parker is old and of poor health. I wouldn't be totally shocked if Mac didn't make the move. However I think odds are against it. He is head coach material.
