DMR--Two Mac Articles

The DMR has two very nice articles today celebrating mostly Mac's off the field accomplishments. No one can argue he has done some pretty impressive things to benefit the welfare of others.

Re: DMR--Two Mac Articles

As today somehow feels like we're all going to a funeral not a football game it's those sorts of things that kept people off his back for so long. He has set the bar incredibly high for the incoming coach, and for that matter JP Hatchetman to bond with the regular people.

For my dad and I who've been going for 27 years together he gave us hope in the program. He taught us it was okay to believe we could win, and ultimately that we should win, and that was his downfall. But most importantly he put fun back into Saturday gameday and for that we appreciate his efforts.

In the end the new coach can't possibly meet the Mac standard when it comes to bonding with the people, so I sure hope he wins, and wins a lot. Nothing else will be good enough.

Two great articles. It is days like this I wish college athletics were not such a big business. Coach Mac will move on and do great things elsewhere and ISU will keep pushing forward to win games and raise money.
Thanks for the memories Coach D-Mac

Re: DMR--Two Mac Articles

Lets ignore the on the field aspect of Mac's time here at ISU for the moment. Off the field he has been a kind generous benefactor to those that surround him, he has been selfless and always has his heart in the right place. He has done much to bring just a moment of happiness to those who are in a tough position or condition...he has affected many lives and all for the better. While I hope that ISU can evolve and get better on the field, I temper that hope with the knowledge that ISU will be losing a great ambassador after today. Good luck to Mac and his family and good luck to ISU as we move into a new era.

Re: DMR--Two Mac Articles

I would disagree that Mac has set the bar incredibly high for an incoming coach. I don't know of another college football program that would not have stepped in and demanded that the coach be fired. The bar was as low as it could have possibly have been before Mac was hired. Mac did improve the program but he never set it at an unrealistic level. Name all the top ranked teams that ISU has beaten during his tenure and how many conference championships he earned. I'm not saying that Mac didn't accomplish anything, but I am disputing that he has set the bar at some incredible level.

Nebraska would be a much better example of a program that expects and demands a lot more out of their football program.

Re: DMR--Two Mac Articles

Let's face it, college sports is about results and everything else will only get you so far without results. As for voting for Mac for AD if Pollard leaves, I don't understand the logic. He stood behind his coaching staff far to long without making changes. He may be a great person and be able to bond well, but he was not an effective administrator of the football program and therefore I don't see that he would be any better as an AD.

Re: DMR--Two Mac Articles

alaska guy,
Read the actual post before you respond.

"He has set the bar incredibly high for the incoming coach, and for that matter JP Hatchetman to bond with the regular people."

Certainly not in terms of wins and losses but the very point of my post was the reason that he was kept around as long as he as, good, bad or indifferent.

Or are you actually trying to say that he has set the bar high in terms of bonding with the fans? If so, please back that with some examples of people who've done it better.

The AD is about Fundraising. For the very reason he's been around 12 years as the FB coach through less than stellar over all performance that being his personality, is the very reason he would be an outstanding AD.

I would never, EVER doubt DM for his ability to be a ambassador for our Athletic Dept and the school as a whole, but I'm curious... if you look at the people he's hired, and how tremendously loyal (some would say to a fault) he is with his coaches....Do you really feel comfortable with the idea of him overseeing the hiring for an entire AD?

peace.

moo.
