Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
Actually I like the idea of the Squawkeyes playing the 4th pick from the Big 12 and the potential of a 6-7 record.

Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
I wish the idiot in the stands yesterday could hear this. Some guy stood up yelling Motor City here they come. I just told him that unfortunately they were going to the Alamo. He started yelling and swearing about how full of it I was and that I knew nothing about football if I thought that the Alamo would ever take Iowa. I will just figure he was either stupid or drunk! ha ha

The only way I see Iowa in the Alamo is if Michigan is the BCS #2. If Michigan lands the Rose Bowl, Iowa would have to jump Purdue to make the Alamo.

It is speculated that Purdue will be going to the Champs Sports bowl which selects before the Alamo bowl in 2006, leaving the Alamo bowl for Iowa.

Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
Like Cypwr, I’m all for it. That a 6-6 Squawkeye team should make the Alamo Bowl would only expose the moronic spin we hear about going to so many bowls in the last couple of decades, going bowling on New Year’s Day, etc. It’s all about lowering the bar.

The records really mean nothing compared to fans buying tickets to the Bowl game. I expect Aggie and Hawk fans to sellout the Alamo Bowl.
Maybe someday ISU can find a coach who can get us to the Alamo Bowl. Until then we'll just have to watch the Fightin Texas Aggies take it to the Squawkeyes! -
Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
Wow, the Alamo Bowl used to be a somewhat decent bowl. Taking a 6-6 (2-6) team would certainly take some of the shine off of it.
I agree that the only way they make it there is if OSU and Michigan play again and the Rose Bowl takes Wisconsin which seems like a fairly likely scenario right now. Unbelievable...what does it take for them NOT to get a decent bowl because this is literally the worst they could finish and still be bowl eligible.

Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
What's interesting is that the Minneapolis media is questioning whether or not the Gophers should
accept an invite since some think that a 6-6 record with a losing Big 11 season is not worthy.
Has anyone seen or heard any media types in Iowa saying the same thing (gasp) about the Hawkeyes?

heard some ******* in a squawk cap at Jack Trice start hollering "bowl-eligible" when the Minnesota/UI score flashed up with the final, way to go you! -
Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
Kansas and Oklahoma St. will most likely both finish the season at 6-6 with 3 conference wins apiece. they will also likely play in the humanitarian bowl or the gmac bowl. what a croc. why is the big 10s package so much better then the big 12s? same competition top to bottom in both conferences year in and year out, yet we get the shaft.

Do not think the Rose Bowl or any BCS bowl can take Wisc. found the following quote on link provided below. "As in the current BCS arrangement, no more than two teams from the same conference may play in the BCS bowls in any particular year." http://nationalchamps.net/2006/bowls/index.htm

Why is this? The Big 12 does not have ties to either of these bowls. Do the conferences that have ties to these bowls not have enough bowl eligible teams?

Congrats hawk fans, you have exactly one more conference victory than ISU this year-way to go!

Re: More evidence we need a playoff. Iowa at the Alamo Bowl.
On ESPN they don't have Iowa in the Alamo.

Conference records:
Ohio St (8-0)---Nat'l Title Game
Michigan (7-1)---Rose or Nat'l title game. I'll assume Rose for now
Wisconsin (7-1)---Capital One
Penn St (5-3)---Outback
Purdue (5-3)---?
Minnesota (3-5)---?
Indiana (3-5)---Non bowl eligible
Iowa (2-6)---Alamo?!?!?
How does Iowa leapfrog teams with a BETTER conference record??? I wouldn't care if they had the same record but they are potentially jumping over a team with 3 more conference wins. Right now, Michigan remains as number two in BCS. Big Ten does not have enough six win teams.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
