Am I the only guy still rooting for Brewster? Granted, he's never been a head coach, but what we know for a fact is that he is a freakin monster at recruiting, especially in Texas. I can't recall what he specifically said in a quote, but it was something along the lines of "when I get in a prospect's living room, I don't miss."
That line overwhelmed me with goosebumps, no joke. Not only did it tell me that he's an amazing recruiter, but also a self-confident sob. Over the past few days I've also read the words "college football is 80% recruiting, 20% coaching". I'm not sure about that ratio, but we've all learned that a team can only go so far to develop diamonds in the rough or lower-tier players.
Brewster was a tight ends coach at Texas, not a head coach. BUT it's not as if he wasn't there every day to witness an amazing staff that consists of Mack Brown and Gene Chizik. He's currently working with Mike Shanahan, also an amazing coach. Certainly he's picked up a thing or two.
He almost assuredly has some great connections to other position coaches from his past job at Texas and his current job in the NFL. He could surround himself with other bright minds.
In closing: He's a proven recruiter. He's confident. He has a great pedigree and has learned from some of the best football minds. He has connections to help him coach. Am I missing something?
